HIT: To Terry Chandler, a former Union Springs Central School District worker who helped form the Union Springs Education Foundation.

The foundation helps provide funding to educators in the Union Springs school district to finance anything that enhances education but is not included in the general school budget.

The foundation also funds scholarships. It is a great way to help students and educators and in these tough economic times, it is much needed.

HIT: To some rare economic good news as ITT Goulds Pumps announced this week that it is going to add 60 new jobs to its Seneca Falls manufacturing facility.

A $1.5 million grant from the Empire State Development Corp. will help pay for renovations of the facility and ITT is investing $10 million of its own.

As the economy worsens, it is cause for celebration any time jobs are added in this area.

MISS: To reports of gun crimes in Auburn.

An Ithaca man was in court this week facing charges that he brandished a handgun while robbing people at a Cayuga Street apartment in June.

And on Wednesday, Auburn police charged a man with shooting through the door of a city home and beating the resident with the gun.

We hope these incidents don't point to an escalation of violence in Auburn.

HIT: To the national premiere of the movie “The Express.” The film, which is based on the life of Syracuse University football star Ernie Davis, the first black to win the Heisman Trophy, will give millions of moviegoers the opportunity to learn about one of the unsung heroes of sports.

Davis faced racial prejudice and triumphed, but, sadly, could not beat the leukemia that ended his life at a very young age.

This film will tell Davis' story to a new generation and help keep his memory alive.
