NRA misconstruing Obama's stance on guns

Wednesday, October 8, 2008 11:38 PM EDT

I'm certainly not writing this letter to pick a fight with the NRA crowd out there, but I've seen more than enough of my dad's NRA mailings around election periods to know that the bulk of George J. Smith's ridiculous letter (“Obama Wants U.N. Troops to Disarm Americans”) undoubtedly came from a mass-mailed propaganda campaign composed by some of the more radical extremists which unfortunately populate that otherwise valid organization.
Here's what the NON-PARTISAN “FactCheck.org” said about the NRA's attempt to blatantly mislead voters:

“A National Rifle Association advertising campaign distorts Obama's position on gun control beyond recognition.

The NRA is circulating printed material and running TV ads making unsubstantiated claims that Obama plans to ban use of firearms for home defense, ban possession and manufacture of handguns, close 90 percent of gun shops and ban hunting ammunition.

Much of what the NRA passes off as Obama's “10 Point Plan to ‘Change' the Second Amendment” is actually contrary to what he has said throughout his campaign: that he “respects the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms” and “will protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase, own, transport, and use guns.”

Read it yourself at: http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/nra_targets_obama.html

The site also reveals that the mailer comes in a deceptive printing which looks as if it came from the Obama campaign.

FactCheck.org also reveals that the NRA will spend $15 million on such blatantly deceitful propaganda against Obama, simply because he favors sensible gun control.

I strongly recommend that hunters like myself, and indeed, all citizens who are interested in the in-depth analysis and facts about both the nature of the NRA's deceitful campaign as well as Obama's true stance on this issue to thoroughly peruse the link I have provided.

One last question to Gullible George; what was that about “thinking for yourself?”

" Factcheck is great but why is it that no one on here bothered to look at Obama's voting record? His voting record on guns speaks for it self. "

" I hope the voting public can see through the lies and deception in the campaign against Obama. As McSames lead dwindles, this foolishness will only get worse. "
