The city of Auburn's parking garage might get a much-needed face-lift.
City officials are currently accepting proposals for improvements to the multi-level garage, located on Loop Road near Exchange Street. According to a city council resolution that was pulled from an agenda last month, the garage has not received major structural attention in its 30 years of existence.
According to the original proposal, the project should include repairs to pot holes and expansion joints throughout the garage.
The city received two bids from area contractors for the project, one for about $140,350 and one for $158,000.
City Manager Mark Palesh said Wednesday that the city is waiting to receive other bids before a resolution goes back onto a council agenda. Since it was pulled, the proposed project has also received some additions for retention system and stairwell work, Palesh said.
The city parking garage serves visitors and employees in downtown Auburn, and has spaces for hundreds of vehicles. It costs $1.50 to park in the structure for the first two hours and $8.75 to park for more than seven hours during a single day.
Signs of wear are visible in the structure, with patchwork on the driveway cracking and worn, rusted stairwells. There are also numerous spots where concrete material is crumbling away from the ceiling and exterior of the garage.
Funds set aside for maintenance over the past six years have been cut because of budget constraints, according to the original proposal.
