The Lakers misfired on first-half opportunities, but second-half goals by Grace Van Der Ven and Destin VanTyle propeled Skaneateles to a 2-1 win over the Eagles, Monday.
“We had a lot of opportunities in the first half that didn't come to fruition,” Lakers coach Lauren Wiese said. “It worked out that we have midfielders that can make shots from outside the box.”
Jordan-Elbridge sophomore Tia Segretto scored the lone goal.
“Jordan-Elbridge was applying a lot of pressure on the box,” Wiese said. “We changed up the offense (at halftime), dropping the ball back to out midfielders who dropped shots outside the box.”
Skaneateles' Erica Tardiff collected five saves and Heather Mullen added two saves.
Emily Dillon contributed 15 saves in goal for Jordan-Elbridge.
Skaneateles (7-7) plays today in Solvay, a team that trails the Lakers by just one game in the Liberty League standings.
“It is always a pretty physical game when we play Solvay,” Wiese said.
