I am a senior citizen here in Auburn and I really do wish that wold get the old-style meters back in downtown. I like them much better than the ones we have here now.
I know that people recognize the crosswalks downtown --- I've seen them stop when sombody crosses. I'm sorry the drivers don't obey the crosswalks on East Genesse Street but people seem to be in a big hurry to get wherever they go.
I just got done watching the debate between Biden and Palin, and afterwards, listening to Tom Brokaw, I thought he retired. Can we get this guy off the air?
What they need is a cop or a sherriff's deputy, on East Genny, where the crosswalk is, to stop speeders!

Karl : I think criminals know they could get death, they just think they won't get caught!
we just had a 17 yr.old girl shot in the head and killed while at a party with 20 yr olds. The gun was being passed around--and as a joke and NOT knowing it was loaded-he put it to her head and pulled the trigger.
I could see if it was young kids ages 6-10 but a 20 yr old???
he lacked common sense! "

First of all, criminals are stupid. They don't think "If I do X, I'm going to be sentenced to Y"--and certainly not in cases where they do something so heinous as to be given death.
Now, people like Colin Ferguson--the madman who got on the bus with a shotgun and just started calmly shooting people--on video!--he should have been simply "taken out back and shot". Period.
But I believe that there are a LOT of people railroaded in court, and unless there's irrefutable video evidence, I believe in a fair trial.
However, I don't believe it deters crime at all.
What I was against there was the OBVIOUS crossing of the line between Churcn and State-- in one of the most corrupt "Justice" systems in America; that of Texas's. It is well known as a highly corrupt, prejudicial system (Bush cronies; what'd ya expect?) I just can't believe that that reading would not constitute an atmosphere of "extreme prejudice"! "

Obituary of the late Mr. Common Sense
'Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who
has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was,
since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He
will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the
worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more
than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in
charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but
overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy
charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended
from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for
reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the
job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly
children.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental
consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but
could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to
have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses;
and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you
couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar
could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to
realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in
her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement..
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his
wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He
is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, I Want It Now,
Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If
you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do
nothing.' "

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court on Monday refused to consider a murder case in which a jury foreman read passages of the Bible to hold-out jurors who subsequently voted to impose the death penalty.
Without comment, the justices declined to consider whether the jury foreman's conduct violated the rights of Jimmie Lucero, an Amarillo, Texas, man sentenced to death after being convicted in the shotgun slayings of three neighbors at their home in 2003.
The state of Texas argued that the Bible passage merely duplicated instructions of the trial court. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals found the introduction of the Bible into the jury room to be "harmless error."
A Texas jury took about five hours to decide on the death penalty for Lucero.
The two jurors who switched their votes said the reading of the scripture and its content had no impact on their votes. (Yeah, RIGHT!!)
During deliberations, the foreman read aloud from Romans 13:1-6, which states that everyone must submit to authority and that those who do wrong should be afraid, for a ruler is "God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment to the wrongdoer."
Lucero was convicted in the killings of 71-year-old Pedro Robledo, his 72-year-old wife, Maria, and their daughter, Fabiana, 31.
----THIS IS O-U-T-R-A-G-E=O-U-S!!!!!
A guy's life is on the line, and this jury foreman gets to read out an intimidating religious admonition IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, no less?
Texas--with it's well-known reputation for having a large amount of "religious" residents-AND THIS GUY IS ALOWED TO INTIMIDATE TWO HOLD-OUTS WITH BIBLICAL ADMONITIONS?!
I don't know many people to whom that would not give them pause to reconsider!!
I can only say that it doesn't surprise me coming from Texas!
Outrageous! "

This "personal attacks" stuff is sooo silly!
What are we all--in high school?!
A "personal attack" would be if someone named someone on here by name, or alleged some completely scurrilous accusation against them which would be hard to prove or might seriously damage their reputation.
Calling someone "an idiot" is NOT. We're ALL idiots here sometimes--me included--and I don't mind! "

Or at least TRY to do.
I don't just say that because I have a friend running for state office, but because I sincerely want to urge folks to vote the incumbents, esp. the long-time incumbents, right out of office for their part in all our economic troubles. Even if they didn't participate actively, they failed to stand up against The Machine which is currently rolling over us all.
Incumbents get money from the government to help their campaigns while newcomers have to pinch and scrape on their own. It makes it much harder for them -- but it means they are more independent. Remember that when you cast your vote for local and state office. "

how ever I think we all hold some sort of racism. It begins as a dislike for certain 'people'
such as I dislike 'druggies' then it goes to the group of 'druggies' as a whole..
I really am not racist towards blacks, but there are a number of my sis's friends and of course the fathers of her kids that I really cant tolerate..
these would be druggies also!
(the dads are in jail and have been)
I have stayed clear of these kinds of people in my life, I don't feel sorry for them, I don't want to aid them, and I certainly don't want to befriend them! "

"Days from becoming the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history, Lehman Brothers steered millions to departing executives even while pleading for a federal rescue, Congress was told Monday.
...
"Waxman [D-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee] questioned Fuld [CEO of Lehman Bros]on whether it was true he took home some $480 million in compensation since 2000, and asked: "Is that fair?"
Fuld took off his glasses, held them, and looked uncomfortable.
[He later claimed it was "only" $300 Million].
...
Waxman read excerpts from Lehman documents in which a recommendation that top management should forgo bonuses was apparently brushed aside. He also cited a Sept. 11 request to Lehman's compensation board that three executives leaving the company be given $20 million in "special payments."
"In other words, even as Mr. Fuld was pleading with Secretary Paulson for a federal rescue, Lehman continued to squander millions on executive compensation," Waxman said before Fuld appeared as a witness.
...
"[Waxman] said, "Mr. Fuld depleted Lehman's capital reserves by over $10 billion through year-end bonuses, stock buybacks, and dividend payments."
[End quotations]
OK, kids -- I think Congress should go after each and every one of those executives and strip them of their "golden parachutes" and put the money towards repaying the public for the $700 billion bail-out. No WAY should they be allowed to cavalierly play with our money, lose it, then bail themselves out with extra millions in their own pockets while their victims face foreclosure on their homes. No bloody way. "

I moved out of my moms at 16 due to the 'racist warden' as I called him
(a step-dad)
anytime I took my 2yr old sis somewhere I had to apologize for her mouth ('N')
until she was old enough to know better and understand what her father taught at home was wrong.
My other sisters kid (1/2 black) was NOT allowed at the wardens home, one day I was sitting the youngest sis for them and the older sis had an emergency and needed to me watch her son.
Bad timing-she didnt get back before the warden, and all heck broke lose!
How dare I let 'this child' into his home, I reamed my mother who so badly wanted to know her grandchild but fear held her back.
Finally, I got thru to the 'warden' that this was an innocent child--he didnt ask for his parents-why should he be punished?
That was the first time my mom held him, played with him, loved him! I took the first & last photos of them together that night, for she died a month later.
I guess thats why I chuckle when you call me racist.
just because I disagree with Obama or lazy blacks on the system, I also disagree with lazy white abusing ways too! "

If its the states screw up on Land issues, then give the Indians STATE LAND, NOT land already owned by taxpayers.
The overal 'sovereignty' on gas and cigs, shouldnt even be an issue. Its just the states way to gobble more dollars for wasteful spending.
I dont know about there but in our area, the Indians give back alot to the community-more than most corporations.
instead of wasting more dollars with lawyers and court cases, they should meet in the middle and come to an agreeable conclusion. "

Who's job is it to do initial paperwork?
Who is Blueprint?
Who is Stardust Foundation?
Cayuga County Development Corp (CCDC)?
NOTED:
The county's plan is to use the Cayuga County Development Corp. The already-formed, but currently unused, organization could be resurrected to fill this need, Schuster said.
The Blueprint group maintains that a new agency should be built from scratch because existing agencies have failed to deliver.
(what existing agencies failed?)
That organization should be run by a nine-member board that includes four public representatives and five members from the private sector, according to the proposal.
(sounds like too many mouths to feed, would this be another "Pioneer Rest." fiasco?)

Wasn't too bad, but then, I got a parking spot very near the kiosk, the weather was lovely, I wasn't in a hurry nor going to be at the appointment long, and I wasn't old, disabled or trying to push a child in a stroller. I still think it is a stupid idea to have kiosks that require the users to walk from car to kiosk AND BACK AGAIN, when there are perfectly good kiosks in other towns where you need only walk from your car in a numbered slot to the kiosk, then on to your appointment, no need to retrace your steps back to your car. Typically inefficient Auburn.... "
