There are lots of good things to do this weekend, so be sure to get out in the fall weather and enjoy.
The United Methodist Church at 99 South St. (corner of Fitch Avenue) in Auburn will host its annual Old Tyme Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. There will be much to enjoy including antiques, a huge flea market, chicken barbecue, homemade pies, puddings, soups and kapusta, Helluva Good cheese, crafts, jewelry, books, pet treats, gifts, plants and more. The Half Acre Church in Auburn will hold a chicken barbecue at noon Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Aurelius East Firehouse. Eat in or takeouts available. A full dinner is $8 and includes half chicken, potatoes, salad, roll, cookie and beverage. A child's meal and chicken only meal are $4. Diners may eat in or take out. Proceeds will benefit Hospice of the Finger Lakes and the Gordon Eadie Activity Center.
The St. Hyacinth's CYO chicken barbecue and Polish food sale will be held from noon until sold out Sunday, Oct. 5, downstairs in the school building at 63 Pulaski St., Auburn. This event is take-out only and complete dinners, which include a half chicken, pierogis, kapusta, baked beans, Italian bread and dessert, are $8 for adults and $7 for children. Pigs in the blanket will also be sold separately at $2 each, as well as kapusta in small and large containers at $2 and $3.50 each.
A family-style roast beef dinner will be served from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Federated Church of Port Byron, on Tex Pultz Parkway. Takeouts will also be available. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Please call 776-5006 for more information.
Come to the Sunday Worship Cafe at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at United Church of Auburn, 77 Metcalf Drive. Everyone is welcome to this casual worship service with a coffeehouse feel. Eucharistic Days (Forty Hours Devotion) will be held at St. Hyacinth Church, 63 Pulaski St., on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 19, 20 and 21. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on the altar following the Sunday Mass at 11 a.m. until 7 p.m., and on Monday and Tuesday after the 9 a.m. Mass until 7 p.m. There will be evening Prayer & Benediction services each day at 7 p.m. by the Rev. Frank E. Lioi, the presider and homilist. His topic will be “Spirit Alive.” The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) will be available each day following Mass and Evening Prayer.
The Election Night Dinner, which was such a huge success for years when held at the Trinity Church, will be continued now at the merged Methodist Church on the corner of South Street and Fitch Avenue in Auburn. The Methodists will be serving a chicken 'n biscuit dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4. A home-cooked chicken dinner, including homemade cranberry relish, vegetables, beverage and dessert will be served. The cost is $7 for adults, and $5 for children.
St. Joseph School is seeking crafters for the holiday craft fair to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. Spaces are 8 by 8 feet. Reservations are on a first come, first serve basis. To reserve tables, please contact Heather at 374-1298. The application deadline is Nov. 1.
