For months we have been gazing at an ugly up and down hedge on the NYSEG property --- corner of Swift and Throop --- and now the city workers have left an even uglier tree stump right next to the hedge. Is it something we in the neighborhood have done to deserve punishment like this?
When did turn-only lanes become turn-into lanes and merge and when did they become passing lanes? Where did everyone else but me learn to drive?
Is it not a state law that drivers have to stop for a pedestrian if they are in a cross walk? The neon green/yellow signs on East Genesee Street do not seem to be attracting too much attention from drivers as I cross every day and people are not recognizing the crosswalk.
I think I speak on behalf of the citizens of Auburn and surrounding communities when I say that the family of Sgt. Jerome Bell is in our thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time. He has made the ultimate sacrifice a soldier can make, and we as Americans should pay tribute to this hero without reservation.

If the national debates were run the way we had debates run, they might actually be useful to the voters. There were strict rules about how things were run -- who spoke when and for how long being only a couple. There was one issue and the debaters had to stick to their position on that one issue. You had so many minutes to put forward your view. Then your opponent had so many minutes to put forward his opposing view. Then you each had so many minutes for rebuttals. Etc. Points were given for how well you made your case -- based on FACTS and LOGIC, as well as smooth presentation.
These so-called political "debates" are indeed a lot of rubbish, grand-standing, sniping and a lot of bull. I'd love to see the candidates forced to stick to a formal format with no nonsense -- debate a critical issue the way we had to do in school. I wonder if they could even do it. "

The article now says "trash bin fires" and the byline says Citizen Staff Report.
What's most curious is that if you search on "suspicious fires" you will find only ONE version of this story -- the corrected version. We have been told when we've asked before about comments getting wiped out every time they make a correction to an article that the system creates a new version. If you search, you can find all the versions, even though only the most up-to-date one is linked from the top page.
Not this time. If you search, you will find only the corrected version. If anyone else made comments, they are now completely swept under the rug.
On top of spending the past 65 minutes on several phone calls to Verizon about my bill, and having their website continue to scr*w up so I can't take care of the problem that way either, I am in a fairly foul mood. "

I don't think I could have listened to the whole thing anyway, because it takes about 30 seconds of Palin's whiny nasal voice before I am crawling the walls WORSE than if someone drew nails across a chalkboard. Ye gods, I hope we don't get stuck having to listen to THAT for the next 4 years, esp. not when you look into the content of what she says, which is every bit as scary as what her running mate says. Karl: Biden did a good job from what I saw, I didnt see the first hour YET!
Yes, he was better than Obama!
Palin was awesome too.
YOU can call it rehearsed but its no different than Obamas 'days of practice prior to his debate' and his TelePrompTer.
I really didnt think the questions overall helped us learn more about her.
Or Biden either.
We all know they have families, we all know the have military children, etc.
the questions leaned more to an Obama vs McCain debate with Palin and Biden doing their talking!
How many times did Biden mention the word GOD?
anyway, from what I saw I wish Biden and Palin were the ticket! "

Yes, the senate resoundingly passed a bail-out package with more pork in it than a good old-fashioned Oscar-Meyer Weiner. Let’s all pat them on the back for preventing economic Armageddon. Or did they?
To that, the market reacts by tanking another 300 points.
Does is scare anyone else besides me, that our lawmakers might not know what in the world they are doing?
Picture this: Let’s take part of that $700 billion and built a big ship. Pack all the elected officials onto the decks and sail them down the Potomac River. When they have finally sailed out of sight, we start our government over again from scratch. Better still, don’t leave the lobbyists out. They can provide the muscle to row the ship out to sea. Whew, good riddance! "

when I lived in CA, I thought they were the worst,
then FL, for sure the worst.
But having traveled alot--every state has some HORRIBLE drivers!
our area is bad for red light runners and school zone speeders!
they added the little lights for the police to watch for, however keeping an officer in the location 24/7 was not practical.
So they added cameras,DOT says they cameras have aided in fines, however I will see no less than 10 red light runners in a given day.
once a week the school zone close by has several officers the other morning they had 6 vehicles pulled over!
WHERE is it that one must go in such a hurry? Maybe I am more laid back, I figure if I am already late, I AM LATE!
no point in speeding, if I get caught I will be even later waiting on my ticket (which I can't afford to get)
OR possibly kill/injure someone else and me!
ps...I am usually always late, in fact I have requested my older son to BE SURE I AM LATE for my funeral..I see no reason to be on-time then either!

Senator, have you seen those pictures of Obama in his swim trunks? If not, I have them right here.
Mayor, what are the names, ages, and blood types of all 71 members of the Belgian Senate? And why are you unwilling to admit that your inability to instantly produce any and every fact I demand makes you unfit to stand in the way of history?
Senator, you've spoken at length. Could you please continue?

Neither of us is into racing, so if you ever meet up with us, I think that patch has your name on it.
Yep, oldtimer, when I almost bought the house in Moravia, one of it's better features was that it was less than half a mile from the Modern Market. If you know people in Moravia who drink Schaefer, you probably know Farmer Guy, or knew his dad -- farmers of the old school from Venice/Scipio, most famously associated with the "Venice Boom," as well as their renowned homemade hard cider.
Another place Schaefer is sold is at the convenience store at the corner of North and York Sts in Auburn.
