A 22-year-old musician was arrested by the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office after he was accused of convincing a 16-year-old fan to produce and send him an inappropriate video of herself via cell phone, deputies said.
Deputies said Justin Cecil, 22, of Merritt Place, New Hartford, met the girl through his band's social networking Web site, and that those meetings eventually developed into telephone conversations and in-person meetings.
Deputies accused Cecil of asking the girl to make him the video on Sept. 7.
The sheriff's office would not release the name of the band to protect the identity of the other members who were not involved in the incident, deputies said.
Deputies said that many bands have been using various networking sites such as Facebook.com and MySpace.com to communicate with their fans.
Cecil was arraigned in Weedsport village court on Sept. 24, where he was charged with promoting the sexual performance of a child, a felony. Cecil was sent to the Cayuga County Jail where bail was set at $5,000 bond.
