Panthers stifle Southern Springs

Nina Suarez led the Port Byron field hockey team with two goals and an assist in the team's 5-1 win over Southern Springs, Thursday.
Ali Short also had two goals for the Panthers, while Britney Helmer scored a goal and assisted another.

Nica Dare and Shelby Gilbert each had an assist. Kellie Redmond saved eight shots.

Molly Clifford scored Southern Springs an unassisted goal, while Katie Smith had 13 saves in the net.

Port Byron (6-4) travels to Weedsport, today.

Moravia 4, Homer 1

Hannah Mackey and Haley Potter each scored two unassisted goals for the Blue Devils. Amanda Stone saved five shots.

Moravia had 18 shots on goal and 10 penalty corners, while the Trojans had five penalty corners and seven shots on goal.

Moravia (7-4) hosts Tioga, Tuesday.

Vernon-Verona-Sherrill 5, Cato-Meridian 0

Chelsea Terpening had nine saves for the Blue Devils.

Cato-Meridian (0-10) travels to Port Byron, Tuesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

Auburn 5, Corcoran 2

Claire Minnoe led the Maroons with a win in first singles (6-2, 6-0).

Palak Patel won the third singles in a tie-breaker (7-6, 7-4, 6-3), Sam Bruno and Jaime Bruno won the first doubles (6-2, 6-4).

Hanora Barron and Christina Simmons won third singles (6-4, 6-4), while Amy Farinelli and Sam Cadwallader won fourth doubles (6-0, 6-0).

Auburn (9-1) hosts its senior night against West Genesee, Monday.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Lansing 52, Southern Springs 40

Caitlin Rejman led Southern Springs to first place finishes in the 100 backstroke (1:16.08) and 100 butterfly (1:17.63). Kathryn Carter had a first place finish in the 100 breast stroke (1:23.49), while Lisa Stauderman came in second (1:26.44).

Elizabeth Tyrrell, Erin Mattoon, Stephanie Morse and Bekah Ortquist took first in the 400 free relay (4:25.01)

Ortquist finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:15.49) and 100 freestyle (1:01.68). Devon Balk took second in the 100 backstroke (1:24.44). Rejman, Carter, Kim Burke and Morse came in second in the 200 medley relay (2:17.36). Morgan Mattoon, Rose Mandel, Balk and Rejman placed second in the 400 free relay (4:46.14).

Southern Springs (2-3) travels to Odessa-Montour, Thursday.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Auburn 28, Oswego 29

Liz Mahoney led the Maroons to a first place finish (15:46) and Meghan Guzewicz was right behind her for second place (16:06), Wednesday.

Patricia Fleischman came in fourth (16:26), Kerry Lupo finished in ninth (17:27) and Molly Pinker took 15th (19:33).

GIRLS SOCCER

Dryden 6, Southern Cayuga 1

Felicia Allen scored the Chiefs goal, while Theresa Miller assisted. Emily Heslop saved 17 shots for the Chiefs.
