GLENS FALLS — A city in upstate New York has banned sleeping and dining at one of its two fire stations, after a dozing firefighter was apparently bitten by a rat while sleeping.
Glen Falls Acting Mayor John Diamond says the sleeping firefighter awoke on Saturday with a pain and saw some blood and “two little spike marks” on his nose.

City officials only revealed the apparent rat bite to reporters on Wednesday afternoon.

Glen Falls fire officials say the firefighter has been given a tetanus shot and antibiotics and is back on the job.

The city’s Broad Street station will have a reduced schedule as an exterminator and state Department of Health officials work to remedy the apparent rat infestation.
