Warriors a win away from clinching league title

The Weedsport boys cross country team is one victory away from clinching its fourth consecutive OHSL Patriot League championship as it defeated Bishop Ludden/Bishop Grimes, 26-31, as well as Cato-Meridian, 17-44, and Syracuse Academy of Science, 15-50.
Mike Greer was third overall (18:17) to lead the Warriors, while Andrew Smith followed in fourth (18:25), Jon Bos finished in seventh (18:53), Zack Field took ninth (19:14), Jason Ryan came in 16th (19:50) and Logan Thompson finished 17th (19:57).

Weedsport is now 6-0 in the league and travels to the McQuaid Invitational in Rochester, Saturday.

Cato-Meridian 16, Syracuse Academy of Science 49

Pacing the Blue Devils was Joe Mattice who came in 13th (19:31), Tom Klaben followed in 14th (19:34), Chris Krupa ended in 27th (21:02), Carl Tausend was 32nd (21:36), Larry Treasure finished 40th (22:31), Robert McLean took 45th (23:11), TJ Nervina was 50th (24:18) and Joe Barbado was 58th (26:23).

Cato-Meridian will face Bishop Ludden/Bishop Grimes Wednesday.

Port Byron 20, Deruyter 43

Pacing the Panthers was Felicia Darrow in 19th place (24:29), Nicole Carey ended in 24th (25:19), Christina Rooker was 32nd (27:03), Heather Kurtz took 33rd (28:18) and Kaylee Adler finished in 34th place (28:18).

Port Byron (1-4) runs at Pulaski Wednesday.

Waverly 28, Moravia 67

Spencer-Van Etten 50, Moravia 67

Moravia 67, Candor Inc.

Jason Phillips led the Blue Devils, finishing third (17:43).

Also running well for Moravia was Joe Grobelny in 13th (20:15), Billy Jenke in 16th (21:26), Adam Wietheuchter in 18th (21:55), Richie Bentley in 21st (22:43) and Alex Seaman finished 22nd (25:25).

The Blue Devils head to the McQuaid Invitational Saturday.

Tully 20, Port Byron 43

Fabius-Pompey 21, Port Byron 38

Port Byron 16, DeRuyter 46

Christian Cobb finished first overall (18:08) to lead the Panthers.

Also finishing for Port Byron was Mike Borst who came in 12th (20:03), Zac Leja finished 16th (20:22), Tyler Wellington was 22nd (21:43) and Adam Hawker recorded a 28th-place finish (24:40).

The Panthers (2-3) travel to Pulaski in a dual meet against Pulaski and LaFayette Wednesday.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Weedsport 19, Cato-Meridian 36

Weedsport 26, Bishop Grimes/Bishop Ludden 29

Ashley Edmunds led the Warriors, finishing in ninth place (22:37), Erin Daly followed in 11th (23:08), Nicole Greer took 16th (23:46), Alyssa O'Bryan finished 18th (23:58) and Caitlin Jones took 40th (28:00).

Weedsport (4-1) heads to the McQuaid Invitational in Rochester, Saturday.

Running for the Blue Devils was Aubrey Campbell in 19th (24:13), Jordan Weir took 30th (25:49), Jessica Cushman followed in 36th (26:46), Kristin Roberts ended in 39th (27:25), Jessica Bye took 42nd (28:15), Erin Annett was 45th (29:31) and Christine Delattre finished 46th (29:51).

Cato-Meridian (2-3) hosts Tully and Onondaga Wednesday.

Waverly 26, Moravia Inc.

Alicia McLaughlin paced Moravia with a fifth-place finish (23:30), while Aimee Glenister followed in seventh (24:22), Kayla Slater took 12th (25:07) and Diana Stimmler came in 16th (26:14).

The Blue Devils travel to the McQuaid Invitational Saturday.

BOYS GOLF

Auburn 198, Cicero-North Syracuse 203

Stephen Dec was the medalist for the Maroons, carding a 36.

Also leading Auburn was Bob Dushatinski with a 38, Tim Daniels earned a 39 and Bob Gage finished with a 41.

The Maroons (6-6) host Corcoran Tuesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

Auburn 4, Cicero-North Syracuse 3

The Maroons earn their eighth win as Claire Minnoe won first singles 6-3, 6-11, Palak Patel took third singles 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, Sam Bruno and Jaime Bruno earned the win in first doubles 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 and Katie Searing and Aishu Irri also won in second doubles 6-3, 7-5.

BOYS SOCCER

Southern Cayuga 2, Tioga 0

Scoreless at the half, Casey Underwood scored the go-ahead goal in the second half off a pass by Zack VanNostrand to put the Chiefs up 1-0. Underwood also assisted the second goal for the Chiefs, scored by Sean Driscoll.

Southern Cayuga also led in shots on goal, 13-3. Kevin Stockton earned four saves in the cage for the Chiefs while Lewis Morse played tough defense against a strong Tioga scoring powerhouse.

The Chiefs (9-1) play their homecoming game against Candor, Saturday.

Lansing 5, Union Springs 0

Jason Schenck paced the Wolves in the field and in goal after Matt Orchard left the game with a bruised knee. Schenck earned 10 saves.

Lansing led in shots on goal, 16-6 and in corner kicks, 4-2.

Also playing well for the Wolves was Joe Feocco and Justin Lyndaker.

Union Springs (3-8) travels to Dryden Friday.

VOLLEYBALL

Odessa-Montour 3, Union Springs 0

The Wolves lost 25-17, 25-15 and 25-15 with Hannah Moniz leading the way by earning three aces, seven service points, one assist and one kill.

Also pacing Union Springs was Courtney Kirschner recording three service points, two assists, one kill and two digs and Sue Nanna contributed three aces, seven service points and one assist.

The Wolves compete at Southern Cayuga Friday.
