Please, please, please - someone explain why Social Security can go broke but not Wall Street executives.
When will the city remove the ugly tree stump from NYSEG property on Throop Avenue?
All of these negative comments about the presidential candidates confirms my original opinion. Hillary was the "best man" for the job.
I would rather be dead before I'd vote for McCain and Palin. I'm not a bigot, I support Obama.
When does the weekend officially begin and end? Where do I park on Friday at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 7 p.m. ?

Farmer's Gal wrote on Sep 27, 2008 3:49 PM:
You see, in the past couple years, communities in PA (and now also in some other states, including several in New Hampshire and one in NYS) have begun passing ordinances to protect the public health when the larger government refuses to do anything to curb corporate greed, even when it means destruction of environment, community and individual health.
It is usually written into the laws of States that it is the duty of government to "protect the health, safety, and welfare of a community." These communities (rightfully!) see how the State is NOT doing its duty and are taking it upon themselves, taking a stand, and fighting it in court that We The People have a right to take over that duty when the State fails.
Interestingly, the court upheld their law, as the application of sewage sludge/biosolids/human waste was deemed NOT to be part of the "normal agricultural operation" of corporate farms which the State sees as its duty to defend (over and above the rights of individual human persons and communities) -- however, the State continues to deny that The People have a right to local self-government.
It may not be a battle which is happening here -- yet -- but perhaps it should. Sewage sludge is being spread on farms barely outside the city limits of Auburn, so if you are headed that way, you are already breathing it, it's already in your air and water and soil, and it is making its way into YOUR food chain -- anything and everything that goes down the drain and toilet. I rejected it.....But I would not be associated with people who said such inflammatory and untrue charges against either Israel or Jewish people in our country.....But at the time, I thought it was more important to stand on principle and to reject the kind of conditions that went with support like that.
RUSSERT: Are you suggesting Senator Obama is not standing on principle?
CLINTON: No. I'm just saying that you asked specifically if he would reject it. And there's a difference between denouncing and rejecting. And I think when it comes to this sort of, you know, inflammatory -- I have no doubt that everything that Barack just said is absolutely sincere. But I just think, we've got to be even stronger. We cannot let anyone in any way say these things because of the implications that they have, which can be so far reaching.

What do you do to assure Jewish Americans that, whether it's Farrakhan's support or the activities of Reverend Jeremiah Wright, your pastor, you are consistent with issues regarding Israel and not in any way suggesting that Farrakhan epitomizes greatness?
OBAMA: Tim, I have some of the strongest support from the Jewish community in my hometown of Chicago and in this presidential campaign. And the reason is because I have been a stalwart friend of Israel's. I think they are one of our most important allies in the region, and I think that their security is sacrosanct, and that the United States is in a special relationship with them, as is true with my relationship with the Jewish community.
it was true in my U.S. Senate campaign, and it's true in this presidency -- is because the people who know me best know that I consistently have not only befriended the Jewish community, not only have I been strong on Israel,

Excerpts from a Cat's diary
DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre
little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh
meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only
thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and
the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the
occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat
another house plant.
DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by
weaving around their feet while they were walking
almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the
stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these
vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit
on their favorite chair...must try this on their bed.
DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the
headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I
am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their
hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a
good little cat I was...Hmmm. Not working according to
plan.
DAY 768 - I am finally aware of how sadistic they are.
For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture.
This time however it included a burning foamy chemical
called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a
liquid? My only consolation is the piece of thumb
still stuck between my teeth.
DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their
accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the
event. However, I could hear the noise. More
importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to
MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and
how to use it to my advantage.
DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are
flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely
released and seems more than happy to return. He is
obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has
got to be an informant, and speaks with them
regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due
to his current placement in the metal room his safety
is assured. But I can wait; it is only a matter of
time...... "

Oh and remember the pastor whom McCain had actively sought endorsement from?
Remember the Reverend Parsley?!
"McCain introduced Parsley as "one of the truly great leaders in America, a moral compass, a spiritual guide. (Parsley is a preacher of the "Prosperity Doctrine") Prosperity preachers tell their followers that if they "sow a seed" -- in other words, donate to the televangelist -- they will "reap a harvest," or get a supernatural return on their investment. The promise of God's blessing in return for lining the preachers' pocket is the movement's organizing principle, bolstered by promises that believers are "little gods" who possess "revelation knowledge" entitling them to ignore the media and academia, and the ability to positively confess things -- that is, just say, 'in the name of Jesus, that Cadillac is mine!'
(So much for McCain looking out for the Middle Class!)
"...Parsley claimed he had healed a baby born without a brain"
"...When Parsley was revealed to have spewed BIGOTRY from his pulpit, many people wondered if McCain had a "pastor problem" like Obama's supposed problem with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. The rejoinder from the McCain camp was that he was not responsible for every sentence uttered by people who endorse his candidacy."
OH! And WAIT! Let's not forget the good Reverend Hagee!
"...attention has been paid to the endorsement of Republican presidential candidate John McCain by controversial Texas televangelist John Hagee. Hagee has voiced extreme anti-Catholic, anti-Jewish and anti-homosexual views. In a September 2006 interview on National Public Radio, Hagee reaffirmed his view that Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment against New Orleans for hosting a homosexual parade. Hagee has also said that the Jews brought the Holocaust upon themselves by "turning away from the true God." He referred to Catholicism as a "false cult," and said the religion contributed to Hitler's anti-semitic views. When Hagee endorsed him, McCain said he was "proud" to have the pastor's support."
FOR EVERY SILLY "PASTOR PROBLEM" YOU'VE GOT, cm, i'VE GOT TWO TO HIT YOU BACK WITH!
Here's the difference--I'm not using my posts to disguise the REAL reasons I won't vote for a candidate! "

On the other hand, Barack denounced his minister and left that church--PROOF OF HIS GOOD, "PRESIDENTIAL" JUDGMENT N-O-W!
CM says:
In January 2008, Wright spoke from the pulpit in praise of Obama's leadership and comparing him to Jesus's struggles under the Romans, according to Fox television. "Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people," Wright said.
Obama on Friday March 14 2008 , was forced to denounce inflammatory remarks made by his pastor, Ku Klux Klan God damn America 2003 sermon
he drew the title of his book Audacity of Hope from one of his pastor's sermons
Obama wrote on the Huffington Post that he never heard Wright say any of the statements.
"Michelle and I look forward to continuing a relationship with a church that has done so much good," Obama wrote.
Tues., April. 29, 2008: Wright made three public appearances in four days to defend himself.
"If Senator Obama did not say what he said, he would never get elected," Wright said. "Politicians say what they say and do what they do based on electability, based on sound bites, based on polls."
In a highly publicized speech last month, Obama sharply condemned Wright's remarks. But he did not leave the church or repudiate the minister himself, who he said was like a family member.
June `1 2008:
1st two lines of Obama's letter to church:
"We are writing to make official our decision to end our membership at Trinity. We make this decision with sadness."
***Obama suddenly 'sees the light' a mere 3 MONTHS AGO!

Nothing against Jewish people, including the Best Man at my wedding and any number of dear friends, but I do not have much good to say about the hypocritical and oppressive government of Israel -- and that does NOT make me an "antisemite." "

The media has focused on Palin's supposedly stylish glasses and how attractive her legs are above high heels, and how well people have responded to her vivacity in front of the camera -- how is that nothing but negative reporting?!?? It's relatively irrelevant reporting, but has been positive enough to swing a lot of mindless poll respondents into saying they'll vote for her ticket.
We could use more serious expose reporting into her shady dealings -- without even poking very hard, there are plenty come to light already, and that's without her home life.
I've written here before -- repeatedly -- about McCain and why his time as a POW prove nothing about his integrity or qualification for the presidency. His fellow cellmates regarded him as an over-sensitive hot-head whose response to every slight was belligerent and who could not control his temper even when it meant increased deprivation or even torture.
We also know he has no sense of appropriateness, diplomacy or decorum with the jokes he tells in public, including many which degrade women (which he seems to find funny, and which, somehow, the American public is able to forget just because he chose a female running mate. As if....) as well as insulting the children of other politicians -- imagine what kind of international incident he could cause if he made the same joke about some head of state's daughter that he did about Chelsea Clinton, her mother and Janet Reno.
He's an ancient walking diplomatic disaster with a dangerous temper who should never be allowed to be anywhere near the Red Button, and every day brings new ties to corporate interests to light. I see today they are reporting that one of his aides gets a salary from one of these troubled financial institutions -- I just caught the headline, but in the typical way of those AP feeds into The Citizen, when I went back to find it, I can't -- so I can't confirm the details at this time. But it's just another bit of evidence of who owns McCain-- the wealthy and corporate elite. "

To state that: "All we have seen is slander and cruel comments about John MCcain and Sarah Palin" just shows how completely uninformed and ignorant of the truth you are.
McCain and Palin are FINALLY receiving the well-deserved scrutiny which they have long deserved--and the commentary leveled against them is nothing more than an accurate appraisal of the complete LACK of "integrity" with which McCain has run his campaign. He has flip-flopped on IMPORTANT issues so often even I've almost lost track on where he stands. Oh no-wait--all I have to do is ask myself where Obama stands, ad you can be sure that McCain is now adopting Obama's view and stance--because John McCain is desperate to try to morph like a chameleon into whatever the American public wants him to be--precisely because he LACKS the "integrity" of standing behind a principle. He changes his stance and viewpoints based on how badly his polls slip after he blunders another point.
Palin's kid IS relevant, because it shows her inadequacy as a parent, and if you can't manage your own family, how could you possibly manage the country?! Not only that, but even the media is now calling out the fact that she's being "hidden" from reporters because the Right doesn't want her exposing how truly unqualified she is by answering questions.
Add to that her utter refusal to cooperate in the "Troopergate" scandal, and we have yet another already-corrupt, completely-the-same type of Republican flunky who can NOT BE TRUSTED with power in the highest offices of the nation!
I realize that your opinion is indelibly formed and prejudiced by your status as a veteran and your fidelity to the Corps, but here's something you should know--just because John McCain was a POW, and just because he fought n the war does NOT--I repeat NOT-=automatically confer upon him a mantle of "Integrity".
In fact, his campaign and his public statement/switcheroo's show him to be a man completely devoid of principles and integrity, if you ask me.
Obama is the only choice for patriotic, concerned Americans who truly care about the future of our country. "

They base their endorsement soley on the candidate's stand on animal protection policies.
They have endorsed Barack Obama, who has backed at least a dozen animal protection laws in Illinois, and has co-sponsored several as a U.S. Senator. He answered their questionaire, pledged support for pending legislation and has taken time during his presidential campaign to publically support animal protection. He has also spoken out publically against the treatment of downed cows and against puppy mills.
Likewise his running mate, Joe Biden, has a long history of supporting animal protection.
John McCain has supported a few animal protection laws, including one against horse slaughter and one against subsidies to the luxury fur industry (I want to know who PROPOSED that one!!!) But he has failed to sponsor or sign many others, was completely silent on downed cows and the beef recall and did not fill out or return the Humane Society questionaire. He was also the keynote speaker at the U.S. Sportsman's Alliance rally earlier this year -- a group which defends trophy hunting of polar bears and "caged hunts" -- the shooting of tame animals in cages or fenced pens for "sport" and trophies.
But the final straw for them was Sarah Palin, whose animal record is the worst of any governor in the United States, maybe ever. I'll quote this directly from their letter:
Palin engineered a campaign of shooting predators from airplanes and helicopters, in order to artificially boost the populations of moose and caribou for trophy hunters. She offered a $150 bounty for the left foreleg of each dead wolf as an economic incentive for pilots and aerial gunners to kill more of the animals, even though Alaska voters had twice approved a ban on the practice. This year, the issue was up again for a vote of the people, and Palin led the fight against it -- in fact, she helped to spend $400,000 of public funds to defeat the initiative.
What's more, when the Bush Administration announced its decision to list the polar bear as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, Palin filed a lawsuit to reverse that decision. She said it's the "wrong move" to protect polar bears, even though their habitat is shrinking and ice floes are vanishing due to global warming.
How's that for a different take on the election? If animal protection is at all important to you, you're going to have a serious moral quandry if you were planning to vote for a ticket which includes Sarah Palin. "
