Stanton leads Eagles to dual meet victory

Cody Stanton kicked off league competition with a first-place finish (16:02) for the Jordan-Elbridge boys cross country team in an 18-45 over Skaneateles and a 19-44 victory over Solvay, Tuesday.
The Lakers' Calvin Davis was second (16:21) and the Eagles' Mike Marrero finished third (16:41). Greg Bader placed fifth (17:39), Tom Poppe came in sixth (17:45) and Steve Slonosky took seventh (17:48) for the Eagles.

“I am extremely pleased with our race today,” Jordan-Elbridge coach Rog Roman said. “To pack up as we did showed (our) great depth.”

The Lakers' Steve Tucker finished 12th (18:15) behind Davis.

Jordan-Elbridge competes at the McQuaid Invitational, Saturday.

BOYS GOLF

Auburn 203, Liverpool 210

Bob Dushatinski and Bob Gage were the medalists with a 39 at Highland Golf Club. Tim Daniels and Trevor Doan finished with a 41.

Auburn (5-6 overall, 4-5 in league) hosts Cicero-North Syracuse, today.

BOYS SOCCER

Auburn 3, Newark 1

Jeremy Bennett led the Maroons with a goal and an assist while Kody Young added a goal. Conor Soules scored on a Conor Engle assist.

Kaleb Maine-Brown finished with five saves for the Maroons.

Auburn (2-6) hosts Baldwinsville, Thursday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Tioga 3, Southern Cayuga 2

Lianna May scored the Chiefs two goals, while assists came from Nicole Jackson and Theresa Miller. The Chiefs had 13 shots on goal, four corner kicks and six saves. The Tigers had nine shots on goal, two corner kicks and six saves.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Southern Springs 95, Watkins Glen 74

Southern Springs' Kathryn Carter finished in first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:24.76).

Elizabeth Tyrrell came in first in the 200 freestyle (2:28.88) and Erin Mattoon finished second (2:29.77).

Bekah Ortquist took second (2:42.62) in the 200 IM, while helping Caitlin Rejman, Lisa Stauderman and Amber Heslop to a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay (2:18).

Stephanie Morse placed second in the 100 freestyle (1:02.45), Ortquist finished second in the 500 freestyle (6:09.95) and Devon Balk took second in the 100 backstroke (1:18.81).

Rejman finished second in the 100 butterfly (2:18.34). Morgan Mattoon, Erin Mattoon, Rose Mandall and Morse took second in the 200 free relay (2:01.29). Erin Mattoon, Rejman, Morse and Ortquist placed first in the 400 free relay (4:24.37), while Tyrrell, Balk, Erin Burke and Mandall placed second (4:42.02).

FIELD HOCKEY

Moravia 3, Newark 0

Hannah Mackey scored the first goal for the Blue Devils on an assist from Maria Heffernan. Heffernan also assisted on an Ashley Reagin goal.

Michelle Vargason scored a goal on an assist from Haley Potter. Amanda Stone had one save for the Blue Devils. Moravia had 18 penalty corners and 22 shots on goal.

Moravia (6-4) hosts Homer, Thursday.

GIRLS JV SOCCER

Auburn 8, Oswego 0

Emily Parker and Ashley Evans scored two goals each to lead the Maroons.

Christina Hrynyk, Ashley Green, Rashelle Glover and Emmalee Langtry each scored while Brooke Whitman and Ashley Kukella had two assists apiece.

Hrynyk and Molly Sabine also had assists.

Emily Fuller and Connor Clifford combined to save three shots in goal.
