The town of Owasco seems to fancy itself “The Skaneateles of Cayuga County.”
It is true that both towns share similar traits - both are on sizable lakes, both have fine homes, farms, country clubs, a yacht club and high taxes. Here the similarity ends. Skaneateles at least to this writer tries to use taxpayer money to benefit all its residents.
I know some will disagree, but Owasco on the other hand does not seem to use taxpayer funds to the benefit of all its residents. Case in point - the town has contracted and completed the paving of Waterford Lane, a cul-de-sac, that has less than 10 homes and almost half are for sale. The next to be re-paved is Willowbrook Drive (Martin's Point).
Both streets are relatively new construction and not in bad shape pavement wise, nor do they receive the volume of traffic that other town streets and roads do.
These funds would have been better spent on other town highways and streets that are in much worse shape. I wonder if decisions made behind closed doors favor more “preferred areas,” while the rest of the town roads and streets suffer from lack of maintenance.
