Murray, after 20 years,

Monday, September 22, 2008 11:17 PM EDT

we get what you're saying
Lately, it seems, that the literary tantrums thrown by Murray Lynch on the opinion page of your paper have become more delusional than usual and I didn't think that was possible.

Not that it is a bad thing. His recent exercises in his usual self-absorbed rhetoric have been almost mildly interesting. But just like every other thing this man writes, the end result is always the same. His main focus is always on him and his inflated sense of self-importance and stunning sense of entitlement.

He refers to his critics in his latest piece and I am sure that in Murray's world, he considers me one of them. What exactly does he think I am critical of? Him? I don't know him. His thoughts? After 20 years, I've read what precious few he has had and I think it is time he come up with some new ones. Otherwise he should be quiet and take up fly fishing or something.

Perhaps if this man did not have a Buick-sized chip on his shoulder he might get it through his head that it's not the point he is trying to make but the fact that he never makes it.

Discrimination is bad. We get it. Exploitation of workers is bad. We get it. Unnecessary wars are bad. We get it. Unnecessary injuries are bad. (really?) We get it. Bad drivers are, well, bad.

We get it. Murray Lynch got fired by City Hall. Who cares?

" Matthew, I care. Because the way he got fired was apparently illegal or unfair, and he sued and was compensated. You SHOULD care about that if you're a citizen of this town.
Murray makes his points clearly--albeit it a nagging, sort-of way.
But his heart is pure, and his motivation pure. His is not the worst sentiments one could find in these papers.
Your letter is misguided and doesn't speak well of you. "
