Chiefs spread out scoring in win over Wolves

Arthur Burt led the Southern Cayuga boys soccer team with one goal and one assist in a 6-0 win over Union Springs, Saturday.
Zach VanNostrand, Lewis Morse, Bill Rejman, Casey Underwood and Pat Redmond all scored for the Chiefs while Sean Driscoll and Jordan Dean each added an assist. The Chiefs led with 13 shots on goal and six corner kicks, while the Wolves had eight shots on goal and three corner kicks. Southern Cayuga's Kevin Stockton saved three shots, while Joe Rocker had two.

Matt Orchard led the Wolves with seven saves.

Southern Cayuga (7-1 overall, 4-1 in division) hosts Waverly, Monday.

Union Springs (3-6, 3-2) hosts Odessa-Montour, Monday.

Cato-Meridian 1, Jordan-Elbridge 1, 2 OT

Kevin Mack scored on a penalty kick for Cato-Meridian.

Blue Devils' goalie Randy Hoyt had 20 saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

Auburn 4, Nottingham 0

Laura Taylor, Jen Fox, Brittany Rabuano and Sarah Green all had a goal for the Maroons. Caitlyn Mitchell led the Maroons in assists with two and Morgan Clancy had one.

The Maroons dominated with 13 shots on goal compared to just two for the Bulldogs.

Virginia Porten and Aubrey Campbell each had a save.

Auburn hosts Oswego, Monday.

VOLLEYBALL

South Seneca 3, Union Springs 0

Hannah Moniz led the Wolves with three aces, one kill, an assist and three service points as they fell 25-16, 25-9 and 25-6. Carli Jakaub had one ace, one kill and an assist.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Baldwinsville Invitational

Port Byron, 15th Place

Christian Cobb led the Panthers with a 15th-place finish (16:54).

Mike Borst came in 86th (19:12), Zach Leja took 99th (19:51), Tyler Wellington placed 111th (20:30) and Adam Hawker finished 124th (22:00).

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Baldwinsville Invitational

Cato-Meridian, 16th Place

Aubrey Campbell finished 61st for the Blue Devils (22:23) and Angelina Argese had a 75th-place finish (23:22). Jordan Weir came in 77th (23:32), Jessica Bye finished 94th (25:06) and Kristin Roberts took 100th (25:28).

FOOTBALL

Owego 52, Southern Springs 24

Vinnie Salato led the Southern Springs rushing game with 191 yards on 10 carries and scored three touchdowns. Brandon Winter rushed four times for 45 yards and a touchdown.

Jason Wright rushed nine times for 31 yards and completed three passes for 44 yards, while turning it over two times.

Dustin Colella and Salato each caught a pass for 18 yards and Dan Clark had an eight-yard reception. Mark Delaney led the defense with 10 tackles and Scott Wood had nine. Winter finished with five and Nate Markham had four. Tom Weir recorded a sack for Southern Springs.

Southern Springs (1-2) hosts Dryden, Saturday.

Bishop Ludden 36, Port Byron 12

The Panthers stayed winless Friday night as the defending state champs held Port Byron scoreless through three quarters.

Port Byron managed to rally and score two touchdowns late in the game. D.J. Helmer and Toby Fitzsimmons both had rushing touchdowns.

Helmer contributed 21 carries for 114 yards.

Leading the Port Byron defense was Robert Yeomans with 10 tackles and two fumble recoveries while Ryan Aldridge adding six tackles and one sack.

The Panthers (0-3) travel to Lafayette Saturday.

Auburn's defense was led by Emily Fuller (one save), Connor Delaney, Haley Jordan and Maggie Lewis.

On Thursday, Auburn lost to Liverpool 1-0 and Connor Clifford had 14 saves in goal.
