Molloy: End of summer brings the cold

“There is no revenge so complete as forgiveness.”
- Josh Billings

Before I delve into whatever it was I was planning to write about this week, I just want to take a moment to say that it takes a big man to admit when he is wrong.

Am I a big man? Technically, no. I'm only reaching about 5 foot 8 and that's with heels. While this might grant me access to ride on the roller coasters at the amusement park, it isn't much help at home.

I still have to get on my tippy-toes to reach the top shelf of the cabinets in my kitchen. Still, my shortcomings notwithstanding, even I can cop to the fact that I might have been mistaken.

I am sure you are thinking, “Bradley, you're perfect, you're never wrong about anything!” I don't mean to shatter your image of me, but some truths must be addressed.

A couple of weeks ago I went on a little rant about how I felt that summer shouldn't end just because school was back in session. While in my heart I still believe that to be true I was also, a little over two short weeks ago, sitting at my desk wearing nothing but boxers with a nice batter of sweat running down my back.

This week though, I sit here in not only jeans and a T-shirt, but necessity forced me to add a sweater to the ensemble. To put it mildly; it's chilly.

Or to put it realistically, I'm freezing! I'm half expecting to wake up tomorrow just to find that I'll need to break out the snow shovel.

Why the sudden shift in the thermostat?

Well, after reading countless articles about global warming, my only conclusion to this drop in temperature must be due to something I said. I mean, we started out with a summer that had some pretty sweet weather - not too much rain and just enough sun to lend a nice beige to my usually eggshell kneecaps. Then, August ends and I go and open my big mouth. I said some things that must have struck a chord with someone because as soon as I settle into September ... brrr.

Now, as I said, I am not sure who I offended by my taking a stand in the case of summer vs. school but I am here to say, I get it.

Kids go back to school and summer has to come to an end. There, I admit my fault. I'm sorry.

Wow, that felt good to admit to my mistake. But as good as openness might be right now what would be really nice is to have whoever takes care of these things to please up the temperature outside for a few more weeks.

I don't think I'm asking for too much because I'm not talking a full broil here, but adding a little heat might make me warm up to the idea of the soon to be cooler autumn days ahead.

" This sounds silly, but living in FL. Monday morning it was 69 degrees at 7:30 am..
As my daughter and I was getting to the car for school-we were both commenting 'I am freezing', I actually turned off the A/C in the car and the house!
granted it warmed to 84, but WE are not liking these cold mornings! "
