It seems to me McCain and Palin are not really going to "shake things up in Washington" for the better. They are both familiar and ready for the same old games and policies.

The top 1 percent are getting richer and the working class is getting the shaft. It's neocon policy but the people are too stupid to see it.

The Auburn school board revoked the ethics thing where they could have gotten rid of anyone who talked to the media. They revoked it because it had no teeth, and wasn't supported, so now it's a dead issue.

The current economic crisis stems from the conservative policy of deregulation. The American people were warned 20 years ago that deregulation would lead to a downfall of the economy, and they chose to ignore it, listening to no-nothing neocons that don't know enough to come in out of the rain.

" I hope that those who think reading and writing abilities are over-rated have been paying attention here -- careless writing, careless reading and reactions based on both have made a pretty big stink. Take it as a lesson that good communication skills are indeed valuable, and being misunderstood can lead to all kinds of trouble. "

Farmer Guy is spending the entire day plowing and fitting so his fields are ready to plant winter wheat and barley and I probably won't even see him, LOL -- but maybe I'll treat myself to something nice, like dinner at Rogue's Harbor. Or maybe I'll get a novel and a cocktail and lounge around doing nothing! "

"I call on you to resist the pressure from the Bush administration to deliver them a $700 billion blank check to address the current economic crisis. We need to address this crisis, but giving $700 billion to the Treasury Secretary to spend as he wishes is over the top.

I urge you to pass legislation with sensible checks and balances that protect the public as hundreds of billions of our taxpayer dollars are used to address the crisis:

1. NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. If our tax dollars are going to buy bad assets from irresponsible bankers, the American people must get something for it. Equity in bailed out firms. Strong regulation so this doesn't happen again. Stern public oversight. And, no golden parachutes for CEOs with our money.

2. NO HELP FOR WALL STREET WITHOUT HELP FOR MAIN STREET. To truly get our economy back on track, we must aid the victims, not just the predators. Freeze foreclosures. Renegotiate bad mortgages. Create jobs generating clean energy and modernizing infrastructure. Prevent cuts in local police, health, road and school budgets. Extend unemployment insurance and food stamps.

3. NO INSIDER DEALING. Wall Street can no longer be allowed to write their own laws. Legislators should refuse campaign money from Wall Street PACs or executives. We need a "time out" on contact between paid Wall Street lobbyists and elected officials while the crisis is addressed. Any congressional meetings with Wall Street officials must be immediately posted on a single website for complete transparency.

Thank you in advance for taking a stand for common sense.

" "What no one seemed to notice. . . was the ever widening gap. . .between the government and the people. . . And it became always wider. . . the whole process of its coming into being, was above all diverting, it provided an excuse not to think for people who did not want to think anyway . . . (it) gave us some dreadful, fundamental things to think about . . .and kept us so busy with continuous changes and 'crises' and so fascinated . .. by the machinations of the 'national enemies,' without and within, that we had no time to think about these dreadful things that were growing, little by little, all around us. . .

Each step was so small, so inconsequential, so well explained or, on occasion, 'regretted,' that unless one understood what the whole thing was in principle, what all these 'little measures'. . . must some day lead to, one no more saw it developing from day to day than a farmer in his field sees the corn growing. . . .Each act. . . is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for one great shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join you in resisting somehow.

You don't want to act, or even talk, alone. . . you don't want to 'go out of your way to make trouble.' . . .But the one great shocking occasion, when tens or hundreds or thousands will join with you, never comes. That's the difficulty. The forms are all there, all untouched, all reassuring, the houses, the shops, the jobs, the mealtimes, the visits, the concerts, the cinema, the holidays. But the spirit, which you never noticed because you made the lifelong mistake of identifying it with the forms, is changed. Now you live in a world of hate and fear, and the people who hate and fear do not even know it themselves, when everyone is transformed, no one is transformed. . . .You have accepted things you would not have accepted five years ago, a year ago, things your father. . . could never have imagined." :

Why don't the feds buy up the bad loans and refinance the mortgages for those that have been foreclosed on and want to pay and did pay the payments before balloon payments started? The mortgage would be a longer term for the rate they could pay. The homes would not sit there going to seed and money would be coming in to clear these debts. The profit margin of the mortgage would disappear but the government does not need a profit, just a solution. Then people would have housing, money would be coming in, and houses would not be neglected and unused. If the payers got behind and there are tax refunds coming to them, then attach their tax refunds to help them catch up. If they default on this plan then let another family assume the mortgage and move in. There has to be a solution that does not line the pockets of corporations. Also money could be raised by reversing any tax breaks that were given to developers and excess salaries of CEOs and other executives that exceeded 20 times of the average full time employees pay should be repaid. Any bonuses that were paid from bad loans should be forfeited. If these executives quit, then hire some of the 23,000 unemployed Lehman Bros. people. What do you think about these thoughts? "

Is it because it actually will only end up enriching a handful of rich scum bags?

So far, Missouri has the best maintained roads, but then they don't get the snow and ice that NY gets. I will say that the roads off the secondary ones are mostly dirt and we will not venture down those. Lots of people drive trucks around this neck of the woods! This is truly middle America. "

My dad made wine when I was very small (he took off when I was 9), but his wines were so sweet they were like drinking candy syrup with a mild kick. He made dandelion once, and we kids were allowed a sample, but it was so long ago, I can't remember the taste (I might have been 5 or 6). Farmer Guy has made it in the past, but not since I've known him -- we've had hard cider, rhubarb and a concord/catawba blend -- all good, though his rhubarb wines have really varied from extremely sweet to very tart, and the best was when he mixed the strongest in each direction in equal parts. This last barrel seems perfect without needing any adjustment. "

Many wineries make them now so a trip to taste and pick apples and eat out lakeside sounds like the best way to enjoy the beautiful fall colors of this excellent area. I can suggest much...

For a short time b4 our move, I grew up in the polish 'hood of Auburn when I was a kid, (I am german). cm, we have gone down many roads where we see signs indicating "road closed" in "x" number of miles. This particular road is a state highway. We were looking for a cross road to take when we came to the "end of the road". We did not cross the baricade. We just took a photo to remind us of the force and fury of what a hurricane's remnants can do and appreciate that we were in an area that did not force us to evacuate. Most of the time, when we see "road closed" signs, it only means the road is torn up for repaving and we double back to find an alternate route (easy to do on our Harley). "
