I have come to the conclusion that these feminists are so confused, they don't know which way is up.

I would like to commend Judge McKeon for being involved with the lives and well being of the mentally ill. The only concern I have is that indulging in alcohol alone by the mentally ill is not illegal, so the judge has to be careful in the way he handles these various types of situations.

If it wasn't for the Dems we'd still have jobs in the U.S. because Clinton and the unions wanted NAFTA. Americans wanted cheap cars and bought Japan's junk, and now they cry boo-hoo.

On the little girl that died in Palermo: I really blame some of that on the Social Service department. If they were there visiting that home and found conditions too bad, they really should have got on the case and done something.

Yeah, get off your knees and thank the warmonger Bush and his stooge, Cheney, for invading Iraq and Afghanistan, which if you aren't sure, they are on either side of Iran. Does that tell you something?!

On or about October 5th, Biden will excuse himself from the ticket, citing health problems, and he will be replaced by Hillary. This is timed to occur after the VP debate on 10/2.

There have been talks all weekend about how to proceed with this info. generally, the feeling is that we should all go ahead and get it out there to as many blog sites and personal email lists as is possible. I have already seen a few short blurbs about this - the "health problem" cited in those articles was aneurysm. Probably many of you have heard the same rumblings." "

The Farrah hairdo was my generation -- every girl tried to get her hair to do that, while the guys all tried to look like Tony Orlando. Well, they didn't consciously choose Tony Orlando, but that's the look they emulated. Open my Yearbook and there probably aren't a dozen kids out of the 365 in my class who aren't trying for one or the other. (My hair has been cut short and parted on one side since high school. Sometimes I have it cut a bit shorter and spike it up, but otherwise, it's still my same hair -- it'll do that without gel or spray or perms, and I refuse to color, so now it is perfectly (and naturally!) frosted in a way many would pay big bucks to have. I was blessed with an abundance of thick healthy hair, for which I am grateful, and I refuse to damage it with blow-dryer, coloring, perming, curling or any other nonsense. It is what is is, and I cannot complain. I sort of like the "Bride of Frankenstein" sweeps of silver that appeared in the hospital overnight after I broke my leg....

I hope Bluefield Manor is a nice place, 13579 -- those places are all so expensive! Farmer Guy's mother was at Longview and now at Alterra in Ithaca, and it's eating up her money (good thing she has it -- she's not one to share it). She thought about going to Bluefield, as she has friends there (she used to be an Auburn High gym teacher and coach and has lots of friends in the area) but the other sons convinced her to go to Ithaca. Anyway, I hope they have enough activities to keep you interested in life, and enough other older folks who are in good shape to give you pleasant company!

No, I'm not 21 -- I'll be 44 on the 24th, and cm will be 47 on the 27th -- how's that for handy!

Palin's glasses, for gods' sake! " Another hard lesson -- sorry, cm! My ex and I never had a problem in that department, and were able to help each other out financially on occasion since we split (8 and a half years ago, wow). But we never even had to talk about it -- we each brought our own money and our own debts to the marriage, and we each kept entirely separate financial accounts through all the years we were together (15-16 years). It always worked for us, and now I would never do it any other way. It means if that other person ends up untrustworthy, you're safe.

I had a girlfriend whose ex took her credit card and charged something like $16,000 right after he split. She was unable to do anything about it because he was still legally her husband at the time and hence had a legal right to use her card. She ended up in bankruptcy and he got to keep the toys he bought with her money. Lesson learned the hard way.

The best advice you can give any young woman just starting her adult life (and probably any young man as well) is to be responsible for yourself -- be prepared to support yourself, to pay your own debts, to pay your own way and never count on anyone else stepping in to rescue you. I know you have one sister who has made a career of getting the government to fill her every wish once your dad was no longer there to do it for her, but that's no way to be.

Very sorry it fell out that way and hope things look up eventually. "

" I had a Weissbier once! I can say I actually liked the taste, though I still stay away from carbonation (no pop, no beer, no champagne). It has fruit in it, right?

Farmer Guy makes the best hard cider around these parts -- people are always asking when he's going to make another barrel. This year I helped him made about 25 gallons of rhubarb wine, which is also very delicious -- I think you might like it, Karl. The cider is harder than you think -- you drink it and it is so smooth and tasty you don't realize you've had too much until it's too late. But the rhubarb wine isn't so sneaky. It's sharper, of course, because rhubarb is naturally sour, but it's still smooth. I think the sharpness slows you down a bit, so you are less likely to get snockered.

I am hoping to have an open house for my new home some time in the next few weeks, and wish I could invite some folks from here -- but I don't think there is any safe way to do that and not have just any potentially dangerous, criminal or obnoxious person show up at my home. Well, just know that my heart would invite a bunch of you if the logistics made it possible -- and then we could sample that rhubarb wine! "

My mom lives in Detroit, and last time my kids saw her was 4-5 years ago. She's caring for her elderly mother and not in especially good shape to travel that distance herself, and I haven't the cash to travel often (though I did go home last fall), much less bring the kids, who were in school at the time -- and voila! If I were on the outs and not talking to my mom, my kids could be missing months and she'd never know if I didn't tell her.

And it seems clear there is something really wrong with the mother of the child. "

" Gosh, thanks everyone, but you do know you are a week early? cm has a birthday coming up too -- we'll have to get her to tell us which day (the year, however, is not required, LOL). I'll be 44 -- never saw any point in trying to hide my age. I liked it better at 38 when I was frequently mistaken for under 25, but looking 40ish at 44 is not the end of the world.

Booze at bedtime can help you conk out, but it will cause you to be more restless in your sleep and to either wake up often, or "sleep" without getting any rest. So, it is better to have your booze earlier in the day and stick to something like herbal tea at bedtime.

I never drank as much as you all describe. Never ever. When I was in college, at the last day of soccer camp before the rest of the student came back to school, I had a beer. I no longer drink anything carbonated because it makes me swell and be miserably uncomfortable, and I don't really care for the taste, but it's what everyone else was drinking and I didn't want to be a stick in the mud. Well, my body was so clean and healthy that after one beer, I was woozly. Then I saw this girl swimming in the lake. I had swum competitively in high school, so I got the stupid drunken idea that I would jump in and match her pace-for-pace. I did, and she stopped and we treaded water and talked, and I was feeling tired, so I decided to leave the party and go up to my room to rest. Thank goodness my soccer team captain was in the room next door, because the rest of my floor was empty (students not back yet, all the athletes at this dock party) -- I was so sick, crawling on my floor and couldn't get up -- she came over and helped me to the bathroom to be sick.

I didn't enjoy that. I haven't had too much to drink very often since, and I certainly wouldn't drink and then participate in vigorous physical activity immediately following. But in those days, I was so squeaky clean that I could get very sick on a single beer.

Nowadays I'll go out with Farmer Guy and sometimes have 2-3 drinks, but if I have more than one, I make him drive. Mostly, I just have my single "cocktail" soon after getting home from work to help unwind, and that's enough for me. "

Which is one of many reasons I never quite understood the vitriol spewed over the Clintons - they were pretty good Republicans, except they did tax those who could afford it more. I cannot think of a single other reason for Republicans to be upset with him. "

I have posted that b4 only to hear that the Clintons were idoits/crooks. When that was signed it was supposed to be a hopeful tool to broaden the wealth of the world - we would all benefit. This because in Bill's 2nd term we were finally able to take down that deficit meter that h/b set up in the Reagan era. However NAFTA did the opposite - noone could have really predicted that. So Gee Dub ya had 8 years to recind it but he did not because his wealthy croonies were swimming in liquid gold! This election period is a very scary time with how bad things are and the ref's to the 30's and how the waves we are riding now have nvr been ridden b4. Reagrdless of who gets elected, the mere thought that that moron that bought the election will finally be gone. ANYone is better than Bushie. "

" Which feminists, oh uninformed poster? As a graduate and former long-time employee of Wells College, home to many feminists, I can tell you there is nothing monolithic about "feminism" -- it has as many different definitions as those who call themselves feminists. Some particularly abrasive factions have given "feminism" such a bad name that many young women who espouse all the opinions of "feminists" avoid using the term to describe themselves.

To me, a feminist is a person who believes women are people too. Pretty simple. "

" No, no special plans. I think I have a couple meetings at work or something. I have a regular cocktail when I get home (not at bedtime, as alcohol at bedtime makes it harder to get a good night's sleep, says my sleep specialist), and I'll have one or two when Farmer Guy and I go out to his club, but getting blotto is not something I enjoy, and the aftermath is even worse.

(Doesn't help one's metabolism either, even aside from the calories).

Long ago in high school (ca 1981-82), I got very sick on rum and just cannot bring myself to drink it anymore, though I do love a good rum cake, saturated and dripping booze. Can't figure out why that doesn't bother me, as the smell is the same -- maybe it's the sugar? "

mostly SHELL stations are 'out-of-gas'

not too long ago this was also a ploy-admitted by workers at the stations, officials said NO gas when employees stated those were lies had--they were holding out for when they could RAISE their profit.

another fact is we IMPORT most of our oil..so how is this effecting a
so-called shortage and higher prices?

also the media is saying dont rush to stations to fill up or that will make the problem worse?
If people wont listen to get out of the way for a huge hurricane, do you think they will NOT fill up?? "
