On reading the big “THANK YOU” ad from TomatoFest with the catchy tomato-headed guitar player, I looked for names of friends that played free gratis and guess what? I saw none.
I played a few times at a rate less than musicians normally charge (trust me, no one gets rich performing) and was asked to volunteer the next year, which we did.
If we didn't play for the love of music, bands would be scarce. But a few bucks helps offset the expense of equipment, gas, etc., not to mention the logistics of coordinating and transporting gear.
So how about some props for Teenager, Scapegoat, and all the other single acts that volunteered. Weather did not help, but maybe move the music inside the pavilion next year and drop the gate charge to get in where every booth charges for something.
All the other veggie fests around the state seem to do a lot better. Just food for thought.

How about profiling young Dakota and Ben Denman of "Child's Play"?! Dakota won the "best guitarist" contest--and he's ONLY 14 YEARS OLD!!!
He, his brother, and a bassist in the group are ALL under the age of 16!!!
And yet they're a WORKING band, playing and gigging at least twice a month or more!
Wouldn't you think that the town would get a kick out of knowing their story?
Their family runs Frozen Ocean motocross park. "
