The green leaves are starting to take on shades of reds, yellows and oranges. Cool, crisp evenings have replaced warm summer days. School is back in full swing. Life has returned to the normal, busy hubbub that anyone with children is accustomed to. The Child Care Council of the Finger Lakes has an exciting, busy fall planned also.
The Child Care Council of the Finger Lakes will hold its annual meeting Oct. 15. The event will begin as an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Seneca County Child Care Council office, 86 Fall St., Seneca Falls. Members of the council, child care providers and the public are invited to stop in and meet the board of directors and the staff of both the Cayuga and Seneca County offices, tour the office and enjoy tasty refreshments. Hope to see you there.
Fall also ushers in a fresh harvest of trainings and classes offered by the Child Care Council. Licensed and registered child care providers, legally exempt child care providers and any other interested individuals or organizations may attend the many trainings offered at the Cayuga and Seneca offices.
Topics range from building a healthy brain to dealing with challenging behavior in children to mandated reporting. Do you feel like you aren't crafty? There is a class offered to learn and share craft ideas for children. Do you know what to do in the event of an emergency? There is a class offered to learn how to make a plan.
New York state mandates training for child care providers in nine topic areas and requires 30 hours every two years. The Child Care Council offers training in all the state mandated topic areas to ensure registered providers meet all New York state requirements. Trainings are not only available for registered providers; any member of the community is welcome to attend a training to broaden their knowledge of child care issues. Our education coordinator and team of helpful staff are available to answer questions, schedule classes or explain programs we offer.
An exciting training that the Child Care Council is pleased to announce is music mania. Thanks to a grant from the New York State Association for the Education of Young Children (NYSAEYC), the Child Care Council is offering a three-part series in music. Classes will be held in October, November and January. Providers will have fun learning new songs, moving to music and making instruments. Providers with any level of music talent are invited to participate. Talent is not a requirement, however talented musicians are equally welcome. The Child Care Council is thrilled with the opportunity to offer this musical series.
Ahh fall! Mmmm fall! Can you smell the wonderful smells of fall? Just taste the savory tastes of fall. The Child Care Council of the Finger Lakes and Cornell Cooperative Extension are partnering up to bring a series of nutritional trainings to providers and the families they serve. Meetings will be held every Wednesday evening Oct. 1 through Nov. 5 at the Cooperative Extension building, 248 Grant Ave., Auburn. There will be cooking and tasting each evening. Learn to use seasonal foods and discover new frugal ways to stretch your food budget.
Fall is a great time to learn something new or update current skills. Find out how the Child Care Council can help you.
