I write letters to the newspaper because the people in the community need to be informed as to what goes on. Some are not aware of the number of people who are jobless, homeless and in need of help to feed their families. I have been a resident of Auburn since 1952, have seen Auburn at its best and now I see it at its worst.

Jobs are moving and some are yet to go where they can survive leaving heavy burdens of taxes (sewage), high food prices and whatever other burdens on the older citizens who are also trying to keep their homes on fixed incomes.

So I decided to have a can and bottle drive from Oct. 1 until Nov. 1, in order to benefit two of the city's food pantries: Calvary Presbyterian Church on Franklin Street and St. Alphonsus food pantry on Genesee Street. Because of their help to the people in this community and commitment to doing this year 'round, they should have some assistance from all of the people in this community. Cans and bottles should be brought to the Frosted Nickel return center on Clark Street.

If there are people that want to make donations of money, food, etc. please address these offerings to St. Alphonsus Food Pantry, c/o Charles and Sue Norton or Father Louis Vasile. Thanks to everyone in the community.
