Fox, Neagle spark Maroons; Rocker scores four goals

Jen Fox and Kim Neagle led the Auburn girls soccer team to a 6-1 win over Utica Proctor, Tuesday. Fox and Neagle had two goals and an assist each.
Marissa Slayton finished with a goal and an assist, while Caitlyn Mitchell had a goal. Marissa Rescott, Laura Taylor and Brittany Rabuano each assisted on a goal.

Virginia Porten saved three shots. The Maroons had 14 shots on goal and five corner kicks.

Auburn (5-0) travels to Liverpool, Thursday.

BOYS SOCCER

Southern Cayuga 11, Moravia 0

Joe Rocker led the Chiefs with four goals, while Bill Rejman recorded a hat trick and Joe Troy had two goals. Sean Driscoll and Connor Philips chipped in a goal each. Casey Underwood led the Chiefs in assists with four. Driscoll, Zach Norstand and Matt Burgenstock assisted a goal each.

Dylan Parmenter, Ryan Littlejohn and Lewis Morse shut the Blue Devils offense down without allowing a shot on goal.

Dillon Turner led the Blue Devils with 15 saves.

Southern Cayuga (6-0) travels to Marathon, Thursday.

Marathon 7, Union Springs 0

Matt Orchard made 10 saves in the loss to the Section IV, Class C champs.

Union Springs (2-5 overall, 2-1 division) hosts Groton on Thursday.

Bishop Grimes 7, Cato-Meridian 1

Rosalio Rojo scored in the loss.

VOLLEYBALL

Trumansburg 3, Union Springs 0

Susan Nanna led the Wolves with one ace, two service points, three assists and a dig in their 25-7, 25-12 and 25-9 loss. Carli Jakaub had four service points and two kills.

The Wolves JV team also lost 2-1.

Union Springs hosts Groton, Thursday.

Utica Proctor 3, Auburn 0

Emily Felter had three kills and two blocks for the Maroons as they fell 25-19, 25-15 and 25-17. Nicole Bozek had five digs, Kaylee Hamberger and Katie Brown each had three kills. Megan Cahill finished with a team high 12 assists.

FIELD HOCKEY

Moravia 4, Southern Springs 1

Moravia's Jen McLean, Hannah Mackey, Michelle Vargason and Maria Heffernan scored a goal each. Emily Gaston assisted McLean's goal. The Blue Devils had 17 penalty corners and 22 shots on goal.

Southern Springs Molly Clifford scored the goal, while Tony Tardibone assisted. Southern Springs had one penalty corner and a shot on goal. Katie Smith saved 15 shots.

Moravia (5-3) travels to Spencer-Van Etten, Thursday.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Newark Valley Invitational

Newark Valley 19, Spencer-Van Etten 61, Watkins Glenn 81, Southern Springs 83

Alex Schmitt finished in sixth place for Southern Springs (18:17). Zach Casper took 15th (19:46), J.D. Balloni placed 18th (20:03) and Ed Alnutt came in 29th (22:48. Ryan Dill finished in 24th (24:40) and Sam Ayers took 35th (25:39).

Southern Springs participates in the Auburn Invitational, Saturday.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Newark Valley Invitational

Newark Valley 17, Watkins Glenn 60, Spencer-Van Etten Inc., Southern Springs Inc.

Michelle Wilmot came in ninth place for the Southern Springs (23:32). Sarah Norton came in 15th (27:42) and Mariah Farkart placed in 16th (31:11).

GIRLS SWIMMING

Dryden 109, Southern Springs 61

Eighth grader Erin Mattoon came up with her own highlight when she set a personal best in the 100 freestyle (1:05.77), coming in third, behind teammate Stephanie Morse (1:03.43).

Bekah Ortquist came up with the team's only first-place finish in the 500 freestyle (6:18.71) and she took second in the 200 IM (2:39.89). Elizabeth Tyrrell came in third in the 200 freestyle (2:30.98), while Morse placed second in the 50 freestyle (28.71).

In the 200 medley relay, Caitlin Rejman, Kathryn Carter, Amber Heslop and Morse finished second (2:17.79). Rejman took second in the 100 butterfly (1:16.78) and second in the 100 backstroke (1:18.81). Rejman, Morse, Tyrell and Rose Mandel collaborated in a second place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (2:51.00), while Carter came in third in the 100 breaststroke (1:23.5). Tyrell, Carter, Ortquist and Devon Balk placed second in the 400 freestyle relay (4:37.3).

Southern Springs (1-1) host Lansing, Thursday.

GIRLS TENNIS

Baldwinsville 7, Auburn 0

“They're a good, strong team,” Maroons coach Shelly Connors said of the Bees. “They were close to handing Fayetteville-Manlius their first loss in 17 years.”

Auburn (5-1) travels to Cortland today.

GIRLS JV SOCCER

Auburn 4, Utica Proctor 0

Rashelle Glover led the Maroons with two goals. Emily Parker had a goal and an assist, while Mackenzie Sheridan scored a goal. Taylor Roeschlaub and Christina Hrynyk each assisted a goal.

Rachel Barron and Lasheena Love led the defense as they shut out the opposing team for the fourth time this season.
