The state Department of Transportation will hold a meeting Wednesday Sept. 24 to inform the public about proposed initiatives to keep large trucks from driving on rural routes in upstate New York.
According to a DOT news release, attendees will have an opportunity to review informational displays and talk with DOT representatives during the meeting. There will also be a presentation and a time for public comment.
The proposal would “establish a hierarchy” for truck routes, and large trucks traveling through the state will have to remain on interstate highways for much of their travel, according to the DOT. Gov. David Paterson visited Skaneateles in May to announce the coming restrictions for trash trucks driving from downstate to upstate landfills.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Martha Eddy Room of the state fairgrounds' Art and Home Center Building.
Public comments will be accepted through Oct. 10, and can be sent via e-mail to TruckRegComment@dot.state.ny.us or mailed to Commissioner Astrid C. Glynn at the stet DOT, 50 Wolf Road, Albany, N.Y. 12232.
