SCRIBA - The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has renewed the operating license of the James A. FitzPatrick nuclear power plant for an additional 20 years.
The NRC says the license was extended until Oct. 17, 2034. Plant owner Entergy Nuclear Operations Inc. submitted the renewal application two years ago,
The FitzPatrick plant, located at Nine Mile Point on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario, began operating in 1975.
Its license was set to expire in 2014.
The NRC concluded there were no environmental issues that would prevent renewing the license.
