People of all colors should vote for Barack Obama

Monday, September 8, 2008 11:36 PM EDT

In November, which is only a month and some days ahead from now, is Election Day. On this day, every black man and woman 18 and older should cast their vote. Those who are not registered should go and do so.
Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman, even Michael Jackson made history of some kind. But never in all of history, both here and abroad, has there been any black man to impact the people, all people, as Barack Obama has and will have on election night of 2008.

I say this because all television sets will be turned on as millions or billions watch this “new” type of black man make his mark as the first black man ever to become president of the United States of America; a new America that will unite all people, not just the American people, but those of many countries, especially those at war.

I believe that this new change will bring about more jobs, more and new opportunities for all people, better health care benefits, better schools and teachers, better relationships with other countries.

I am not just asking that only the “black” people vote, but that everyone who wishes to be counted and treated as an American citizen vote for Barack Obama.

Election Day will be a day when every man and every woman, no matter how old or what race they are, will witness history being made, for never in my father's time nor my mother's time would they have ever dreamed of such a time to come.

So remember to go out and register those who are not, and everyone go out and vote in November 2008.

" Andy, so the author is not as eloquent as we should wish---what she says is STILL easy enough to discern without it being "racist".
And if you think Obama's economic policies are going to hurt, think of continuing Bush's policies? Because that's exactly what McCain virtually promises. More tax breaks for the Rich, zeee-ro for the Middle class. Are you really naive enough to believe in that "trickle down" nonsense?!
Reagan tried that and we had more people going into economic hardship than EVER before.
As we have had under Bush.
It's significant that as the Conservatives have been crowing about their poptart Palin, the State Department released the job losses report which said that 84,000 jobs had been lost last month alone. DOn't go repeating that nonsense about the Us having high corporation taxes--Bush has been in office for 8 years, given these corporations huge tax breaks, and these greedy scumbags have STILL taken their business out of country. If it hasn't happened by now--keeping jobs here--it AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN.
Also--the mortgage bailout--a result of "conservative" economic policies lobbied for y G. Bush's good buddy Ken "ENRON" Lay. Again, taxpayers getting $crewed for Republican economic policies.
Andy, you said you "saw through the fog" concerning Obama; you know I can't help but assume that your perspective was simply informed by whatever talking head from the Right you've been listening to, because the evidence keeps coming in on McCain, and it's just plain UGLY, man. I hope you watch the debates and reconsider you position. "

First she seems to think Obama will somehow "unite the American people let alone those of many countries, especially those at war". Who our president is has no bearing on whether any other country goes to war. Just because the United States elects any president doesn't "Unite" anybody. Nobody cares but us what color our president is (and most of us don't care at all).

Secondly his economic and energy policies will not help us. If anything they will chase even more business out of the country with the second highest corporate taxes in the developed world. That doesn't even factor in our other high business expenses.

If you want the rest of the country's states to fall apart economically like NY and California....Vote Obama. "

" Andy B--"moronic"?!
Really?!?
What the hell is "moronic"?!
She's urging people to vote!
And what she says about more jobs, less war is SPOT ON!
McCain wants to continue Big Business domination of the economy, more tax cuts for the Rich, more wasteful war.
Really Andy B--I challenge you to defend your contention. "

Andy b wrote on Sep 10, 2008 1:17 PM:

" I see absolutely NOTHING "racist" whatsoever in this letter.
She's simply expressing well-deserved pride in the first HALF-black candidate in history.
DON'T FORGET--his mother is WHITE! "

" I guess my question would be: Are African Americans going to vote for Obama just because he is black? It is my belief that most African Americans will do so, and not even question his qualifications, or policies. I would love to see Cherry sit down if front of a group of people, and discuss the difference, in detail, between McCain, and Obama. Couldn't be done. Furthermore, would Cherry write this letter if Obama were considered a "white" man with black heritage? Probably not---the "black" thing is the liberal media making a story. He is obviously a smart guy, and has some abilities to lead, but why does he have to be anything other than a candidate? PS--Cherry-you are one of the biggest racists I have ever had the displeasure to encounter. You whine if the system does not cater to you--maybe you should just go away because you are the a poor representation of Auburn's African American population. "

" I am not a Cherry Love Duncan fan but she is just expressing her pride that the candidate she favors is also a black man. She is only expressing racial pride. Just as a catholic felt pride voting for JFK and a Jew might feel about voting for Joe Lieberman. She made her point in a round about way but I saw nothing racist in her comments. "

brew1234 wrote on Sep 9, 2008 9:44 PM:

" You put it perspective, read your history books. I also read in the history books that we paid bounties on the scalps of native americans. We enslaved an entire race. We have wiped out the lives of thousands of Iraqis. We fought many wars for colonial domination. The white man's history is no better than any other race. I don't know if your racism is based on the inferiorority of the black man or just the superiority of the white man. Either way you are a blatant card carrying racist. A duck is a duck. "

go back and read your history book--many leaders in Africa SOLD their tribemates to whites! todays age they barter: rice and a donkey for a childbride!

nothing to do with being racist--personaly I am sick of ALL the monies we so generously GIVE to too MANY NATIONS, when our own at home suffer. No matter what we do give to them, its never enough, us nasty cheap americans! "

" Are you saying that you're going to vote for "Obomba" because he is black? You didn't list a single good quality about him (not that he has any). I am not going to vote for someone just because of his color and it will make history. Anyone you vote for that wins will make history-as they would be the president. It all goes in the history books. Just say no to the O (Obomba)! "

killroy6 wrote on Sep 9, 2008 7:11 AM:

" No thanks to voting for O'Bama. He is an empty suit who gives a good speech if he has the words on a teleprompter. Pop Star at best. Not Presidential material. He is losing in all the polls and the gap will widen as the time comes closer to the actual vote. Go McCain/Palin in '08! They are the ONLY hope for this country....white/black/purple whatever...... "

brew1234 wrote on Sep 9, 2008 12:34 AM:

" Every so often the racism of CM shows through. What a bigot! The whites saved Africa from the stupid black leaders. Africa was saved by the great white man. Tell me that is not a racist statement. If the colonial white nations had stayed out of Africa many of the nations would have been better off.
If some of you illiterates had checked your facts, Obama was born in Hawaii and it was a state when he was born.
In Illinois, present votes are yes votes, but indicate that you either have a conflict of interest with the bill or there is a portion of that bill you may not fully agree with. How many bills has congress passed that you could say you were 100% satisfied with? It is the custom of the Illinois legislature, not a character flaw of Obama. Don't just believe all this crap that the neo-con right wing nuts are throwing out there. Try investigating these rumors and falsehoods before you stste them as fact. "

We need someone who can make a decision other than voting "present". I am scared to death knowing that this guy may be president. God help us in the event another 9/11 incinent should occur. Every white man and woman should vote for McCain. Oops now I'm a racist. Sorry Cheri. Only you can make a comment like that. "
