Omar Osbourne ran the defending Class C state champion Bishop Ludden into Cato-Meridian with a 41-14 win in the Blue Devils hope opener, Friday. Osbourne had over 200 yards and four scores for the Gaelic Knights, breaking an 81-yard run in the third quarter after his one-yard run earlier in the quarter.
“The Gaelic Knights are a great team,” Blue Devils' head coach C.J. Hannon said.
In the first quarter, the Gaelic Knights' Devon White caught a 35-yard pass from John Rooney to put them on the board. Osbourne then broke free with a two-yard run and Rooney tossed a 44-yard score to Chris Davis to put them up 20-0 heading into the half.
“We worked on our blocking assignments and that opened up our passing game,” Hannon said of the Blue Devils game plan in the second half.
After the half, the Gaelic Knights came out and scored 14 unanswered points, all from Osbourne, before Cato-Meridian quarterback Preston Dennison ran a touchdown in for a score. The Blue Devils' final score came from a 65-yard pass from Dennison to Dillon Caswell.
“Preston played his heart out, as did the rest of the team,” Hannon said. “We just weren't able to execute on certain chances.”
Cato-Meridian (0-1) travels to Port Byron next week.
“I just hope we play better then we did tonight,” Hannon said.
