I would like to share my thoughts on school going to a four-day week. I strongly agree that not only parents, but everyone will benefit from this change.
Energy cuts and savings on fuel mean a lot to people. A three-day weekend would be very nice for families to spend more time together. What student wouldn't want a three-day weekend! I believe even the adults would love it.
Yes, it would mean longer days, but we should ask ourselves in an effort for our families and schools to save money, should schools switch to a four day week?
My kids are students in the Auburn Enlarged City School District. I wonder if the Auburn Enlarged City School District has an interest in the four-day school week and if they have even discussed it with parents. Schools would benefit from the change. Every little bit adds up. That is why we should try to do what is in everyone's best interest. Saving is what we all would like to do and that is why we should all think about this.

The fact that it would also be a hardship for many parents is important, but secondary to the fact of the detriment it would cause children as learners. "

Children are not born with the ability to focus on the same thing for long periods of time, nor the endurance to keep going at work for so many hours. Pushing them into this unnatural and more difficult kind of schedule will be a recipe for more failures and a downward spiral in the number of drop-outs and kids who just plain hate school.
It doesn't help working parents either.
A four day school week is one of the stupidest ideas in education I have heard yet. "

plus how many lights, a/c or heat, computers, are left on even when no one is there?
dan w is correct too about childcare!
however if you need a sitter, I have a really great sis who doesnt have kids but loves kids, and she could use the extra money. "
