Brenna Haynes is not your typical Miss Jr. Teen Pageant beauty, and she'll tell you that herself.

Brenna Haynes, 13, of Auburn, will compete in the Miss Teen Syracuse pageant Sunday.
“I'm not like other girls,” explained the 13-year-old. “If I were, I wouldn't be myself.”
According to Brenna, after she was accepted into the Nationals' 2008 Miss Jr. Teen Syracuse preliminary pageant competition, she set out to “break the stereotypes that usually come along with beauty pageants.”
With blond hair, glasses and braces, her physical beauty is vibrant, but more important to her is what's inside.
“I like being complimented on my brain,” Brenna said.
On Sunday in Syracuse, that's exactly what she plans to do.
“The Miss Jr. Teen Syracuse Pageant focuses more on the inside, a major component of that is the interviewing process that takes place during the competition,” explained Eric Haynes, Brenna's father. “It's good because the competition emphasizes the importance of personality, and Brenna has a lot of that. It will be nice to see her during the interview.”
Along with the interviewing portion of the competition, modeling routines in formal and casual wear will follow.
If selected as a divisional winner, Brenna could win prizes valued at more than $20,000, but the tiara and sash are not the reasons she's competing.
“I want the opportunity to qualify for the national competition held in Orlando, Fla. for the chance to win scholarships and bonds that total more than $40,000. I plan to go to Georgetown University to study law,” she said. “I want to be a Supreme Court Justice one day; Sandra Day O'Connor is my idol.”
Brenna is fluent in basic French, is an avid chess player and also studies the flute. She has the Bill of Rights committed to memory, is involved in community service and cares deeply about the environment.
“I want to leave a global footprint on the Earth by reducing pollution.”
For Brenna, the Miss Jr. Teen Syracuse preliminary pageant is a way for her to learn something new, enjoy a positive experience and “go with the flow and have some fun.”
“I'm excited about it,” Brenna said. “I just want people to know that if - emphasis on if - I win, I will still be myself; I will still be me.”
