AUBURN -- Local home heating, truck traffic enforcement, water quality, infrastructure and the Harriet Tubman Home should all receive more funding from the federal government, U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer said Wednesday.
During an afternoon discussion with community leaders, Schumer outlined what he said he sees as top local priorities. He also updated the area officials in attendance any steps being taken within the Senate to address each issue and encouraged them to inform him of any other concerns.

The meeting was held at the Tubman Home, which Schumer has been working to designate as a national historic park. The National Park Service recently recommended the designation, Schumer said. Now, he is working on legislation to fund a study on how this can happen, he said.

"We are making really good progress," said Schumer, who added that the facility would get a minimum of $7.5 million if it is designated a national historic site.
