An Ohio man was arrested by the Auburn Police Department Tuesday on charges that he raped a 15-year-old girl he met online, police said.
Daniel Pettit, 25, of Cleveland, Ohio, was charged with third-degree rape and third-degree criminal sex act, both felonies, and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.
Police is accused Pettit of moving into the victim's Van Anden Street home, where he committed statutory rape throughout July and August, police said. Pettit was arrested after the victim's parents called police.
Pettit was arraigned in Auburn City Court Wednesday, and placed into the custody of the Cayuga County Jail in lieu of bail, which was set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. Pettit is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 9.
