HIT: To a series of reunions that retired Herman Avenue Elementary School teachers hold twice a year. The reunions, which include a summer picnic and a get-together in January, are a great way for former co-workers to keep in touch with each other on a regular basis.
A school is a unique place that bonds its students as they make their way to graduation. Since students hold reunions at certain intervals, it only makes sense for teachers to do the same.
The teachers have a chance to reminisce about old times and keep current with what's going on in their lives today.
MISS: To a recent pursuit that took place in Seneca and Cayuga counties. A patrol car was damaged during the chase which ended in Cayuga County.
These are always tough situations for police, chasing a suspect can put themselves and innocent people at risk for injury or even death. Fortunately, no one was injured during the chase.
HIT: To news that a pair of Auburn road projects are expected to finish early or on schedule this fall. The first, the Genesee Street project has taken more than a year to complete.
The second, the city's annual road paving takes up a good chunk of the summer. Road work is an unfortunate and necessary part of summer driving. Yes, it causes delays but in the long run, it means better quality roads and a smoother ride.
HIT: To a profit for Auburn Memorial Hospital for the month of July. Only a year ago, the hospital was in bankruptcy and its future was dicey.
Now, the hospital has had its reorganization plan approved by a judge, it has posted a profit every month so far this year and it announced it is opening an OB-GYN practice as it expands its maternity ward.
This is good news, not just for the hospital, but for the community.
