A loss to Jamestown on Thursday and the Auburn Doubledays would be mathematically eliminated from a division title. With the pressure on, the Doubledays put together one of their finest performances of the season, routing first-place Jamestown 15-2. Auburn now trails the Jammers by eight games with nine to play.
The Doubledays started the night off with quickly with four runs in the first inning.
And things didn't slow down from there.
The Auburn offense finally broke out, piling up 20 hits, including seven for extra bases.
Jon Del Campo led the team with four hits, two doubles, a home run and three RBIs. Del Camp and Joel Collins each drove in three runs. Collins also had a multi-hit game.
Adam Amar went 3-for-5 with two doubles while knocking in two runs and scoring twice.
Auburn's biggest inning came in the fifth when it scored seven runs, all coming before an out was recorded.
Starter Matt Wright pitched a game the Doubledays had needed for a while. He tossed only four innings, gave up two hits and struck out four. He was relieved by Andrew Liebel who allowed two hits, but kept the door shut to earn his first win on the season.
The Jammers scored two runs in the ninth, but it wasn't nearly enough.
With a Jamestown loss and a Batavia win Thursday, the Jammers' division lead is just a half game.
