The Auburn Police Department's Detective Bureau is asking the public for help in identifying a suspect caught on video passing two counterfeit bills at the P&C supermarket in Auburn.
Police said that on Aug. 23 a white male entered the store and purchased some items using a counterfeit bill. The suspect was then given legitimate money back as change from the cashier. The suspect then purchased additional items and paid with another counterfeit bill and again he was given legitimate money back as change.
The counterfeit money was discovered by a store manager during the nightly money audit, police said. The suspect is a white male about 20 to 25 years old, who was wearing blue jeans, a white baseball cap possibly with the letter “A” on it, and a green and white striped shirt.
Police are asking that anyone who can identify the suspect to call the lead investigator, detective Kyle Platt, at 255-4702 or the main police department desk at 253-3235. Callers can remain anonymous.
