CANTON - The widow of a slain state trooper is suing an upstate county, claiming officials were negligent when they allowed a fugitive to remain free despite multiple probation violations.
Trooper David Brinkerhoff was killed by friendly fire during a gunfight in Delaware County in April 2007. He was in a group of troopers who stormed a house where Travis Trim was hiding a day after shooting another trooper. Trim was also killed.
Barbara Brinkerhoff claims St. Lawrence County officials didn't forward a 2006 warrant for Trim's arrest to law enforcement agencies.
An earlier notice of claim called for $100 million in damages, but Brinkerhoff's lawyer says no exact figure was set as of Tuesday. St. Lawrence County Attorney Peter Lekki didn't respond to a call for comment.
