‘God Bless America' needs to make a comeback

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 12:02 AM EDT

I am writing at this time to see if there are others out there who feel the same about this as I do. Whatever happened to the song “God Bless America?” Sung by Kate Smith, the song was beautiful and the words would stay with you. The song stood for our everyday life. Raise your voices to a solemn prayer. Be thankful, love one another.
But no more do we hear this beautiful song on our radio. Our country is free for us to do as we like, to come and go. The words of “God Bless America,” we need to hear. Our country is free, but so much has been taken away. Good prayer in schools, safety of our children and love for our animals. We have so much to be thankful for, we can't live up to it; to what our “God Bless America” means.

We need to be reminded each and every day who loved us first. Let us love our children and animals. Keep the words of “God Bless America” in your heart.

" You can thank liberals and the UCLA for that Sue. "

Yes, the "UCLA". Wow, a bunch of commies those guys are.

If you are going to comment on something you should at least know what you are talking about Dan. There is nothing the ACLU ever did to prevent radio from broadcasting or referring to the song. Or any other non-government entity for that matter.

Do you even have any idea what the concept of separation of church and state is all about? Have you ever read any of the constitution or works of the framers regarding the tryranny they sought to prevent and avoid?

Obviously not - maybe your problem is just dyslexia.

The ACLU knows all about it though, and works to protect all of us from this kind of abuse.

Dan, your assignment is to read the federalist papers, the constitution, and the bill of rights. Be sure not to skip over the ammendments to the constitution. I want a report next week. :) "

" Don't forget to read the Anti-Federalists as well -- they made a whole lot of sense while Madison was on about preserving the privileges of the rich from the rest of the people.... "

" cheeko--if you've noticed, I have used a TWELVE LETTER WORD ("Evangelicals"!) What do I get for that?! "

" Congratulation,---you both have increase your vocabulary from three letter word GOD to a four letter word DAMN. Had to take a shot at both of you two. "

" I agree that the words and the sentiments are beautiful, though I don't particularly care for the "God Bless..." part.
Where and why'd we lose it? Blame the Evangelicals and Bush. It was they who soured the idea of God "blessing" America and her interests--like the "crusade" against Iran, and the whole, looney "Christian Nation" thing pushed by the likes of Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and other demagogues of the Religious Right.
People are sick of the whole notion, I would expect?
If McCain gets elected, I will be singing "God SAVE America"!--or perhaps even "God DAMN America! "

" Buy a recording and play it for your own entertainment, but don't push your religion on all Americans. Your religion and my beliefs are personal not public. I have sung God bless America in public, but you have no right to force anyone to hear it. I sang it because I wanted to, not because you mandated it. "
