SYRACUSE - Syracuse police say a 43-year-old man suspected of stabbing his girlfriend to death died from injuries he suffered during the same incident.
Oscar Cuesta had been hospitalized with a leg wound since the fight on Aug. 9 that left his girlfriend, 40-year-old Angela Corria, dead.
Authorities initially described Cuesta's injury as non life-threatening.
But on Sunday they announced that Cuesta died from the wound on Friday. They delayed the announcement until Cuesta's relatives could be notified.
Syracuse Police Sgt. Thomas Connellan says it is unknown if Cuesta stabbed himself, severing his femoral artery, or whether Corria stabbed him during the altercation.
Detectives identified Cuesta as the suspect in Corria's death, but he had not yet been charged.
