Each Friday, The Citizen features someone in education from the Finger Lakes community in The Banks:
This week, we spotlight Vicky Davis, hairstylist.

Q. What is most rewarding part of being a student? Why?

A. The most rewarding part of being a student is when we are in class. We are still making an impact on people's lives when they enter our room at the salon.

Q. What is the most challenging aspect of being a student?

A. The most challenging part of being a student is keeping up with all of the school work and then a job and extra-curriculars.

Q. What is the part of your day you could do without?

A. The bus rides from Cato to Auburn.

Q. What's the best food item served in your cafeteria?

A. The turkey and gravy.

Q. If you had to grade your own performance as a student, what letter grade would you give yourself? Why?

A. I would say either an A or B. I gave my full attention in school, especially in cosmetology because that's what I am doing with the rest of my life.

Q. What do you do to try to get on a teacher's good side?

A. In class I don't do much to get on her good side, just do my work and keep to myself. That generally makes her happy.

Q. School year: Too short, too long or just right? Why?

A. I think the school year was just right. By the end, I was very excited just to finish and get a job in a salon.

Q. When you finish school, what would you like to do?

A. I want to be working in a salon and saving money to open my own.

Q. Fill in the blank. I have the toughest time in my _______ class. Why?

A. History. I am so horrible at remembering dates. That made it much harder.

Q. Fill in the blank. The best teacher I ever had was _______ because _________.

A. Mr. Cancro. He was the only history teacher that could get me to remember anything that I have learned. And also Ms. Savino - she prepared me for the real world.

Q. What are you most looking forward to this school year?

A. I am not going any further in school at this time. In the future, I do plan to go to business school, so I hope to succeed in all I try.
