August: Can fall be far away?

Don't you think August got here faster than it should have? I do. Probably because fall is next.
Lots of events going on this month for people to have a good time. My favorite will be Aug. 31, the Blue Lights fourth reunion at Emerson Park from 8 to 11:30 p.m. The event is a wonderful way to end our summer season.

Dr. Joseph Karpinski is the host. He arranged it and hired the Blue Lights and paid for the use of the park's pavilion and also pays for the parking. I think that is a wonderful thing for our community to have such a generous man provide this. The Fleming Fire Department No. 1 will be cooking for the event. It is a fundraiser for them.

I love this event, and we are a very lucky community to have such a good evening planned for us.

Of course I'm going - aren't you? It's a very special way to end our summer.

Thank you, thank you Dr. Karpinski, and of course, thank you to Sam Giangreco, The Blue Lights and the Fleming Fire Department.

There was an amazing turnout for the Great Race. I estimated that there were about 700 participants.

The families came because it is such a happy day for the athletes and their families. It doesn't seem possible it is race XXXI because I remember the first one.

Daut's as usual served such good food.

It's so nice when you are surrounded by happy people having such a great time.

They had several different tents such as Hospice of the Finger Lakes that passed out balloons and did face painting for children.

It also had pictures of friends and family of race members who had received hospice. The Dairy Queen handed out free milk. The race committee made sure all ages had something for them to hold their interest. The committee did a wonderful job, and Mother Nature helped. She held off the rain.

Well, two weeks ago we had our class reunion. It was so nice to see everyone. Since all four schools - East, Central, West and Holy Family - have had their last few together, it was nice. A plus for me this time. My sister's reunion was the same weekend, so she came in from Virginia so I got to see her and her friends.

This has been such an interesting week. The Olympics are of course this big thing to watch on TV. Years ago when I went to Greece, my cousins took me to the original Olympic stadium to see a special event. I couldn't believe it was still there.

I had another day this week to say thank you for going someplace to enjoy. There is a small group of us ladies who go out for lunch once a month. We call ourselves the “Lunch Bunch.” This month, we went to Bonca's, the new restaurant on East Genesee Street, that we've been reading about.

The food was delicious. We decided to go there at the last minute, and we were glad. Many wish that they do well. I hope everyone has a pleasant, busy end of the summer, and the same kind of fall.

My ethnic recipe this week is Asian and is called Asian-style frittata.

My other recipe is also for vegetables, since this is our vegetable season. It is for roasted vegetable salad.

Today's blooper:

My blooper today is about an exercise class. It's especially funny to me because I belong to one. This group of ladies belong to a class that exercises and then goes swimming for the rest of the class.

They get into the pool and started with their facial exercises before they started to swim. The exercise is to say A-E-I-O-U several times in a row stretching their facial muscles. When they had finished repeating the letters a girl who was in the pool and watching them came over and asked, “what word does that spell?”
