FRANKFORT - Police say unsafe speed appears to be the main factor in an accident that left two upstate New York teenagers dead.
Sergey Volk and Vtaliy Sidorevich, both 17, were killed late Saturday night in a one-car accident in Frankfort, just east of Utica.
Police believe Volk lost control of his car and crossed over the road before entering a ditch. The car then became airborne and hit a tree roof-first, caving it in.
Emergency workers used hydraulic equipment to free the teens from the vehicle. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Volk and Sidorevich were from Utica and graduated from Thomas R. Proctor Senior High School in June.
Family members say Volk and Sidorevich were originally from Belarus and had lived in the United States for about eight years.
