There may be no better backdrop for local music than Cayuga Lake.
“We have a beautiful spot on the waterfront,” said Susan Harris, who secured funding for this weekend's concert in the Celebrate Cayuga Waterfront Music and Arts series through the New York State Council on the Arts. “This is something to celebrate our connection to it.”
A Saturday afternoon full of bands will take the stage in Harris Park for the show, which continues the outdoor concert tradition Cayuga started last year during its sesquicentennial celebration. Like that show, this one will situate bands on a flatbed rail car along the Finger Lakes Railway.
In addition to musicians of blues, rock and funk persuasions, the show will feature arts and crafts vendors, fishing contests and food and local wine from nearby Mo's Pit BBQ & Cowboy Cuisine. Harris is confident the festival will draw a crowd similar in size to the 500 who turned out for the anniversary concert.
“There are only 600 people in the village, so that's pretty good,” Harris said. “It's a great way to get people down to enjoy the park.”
