It seems as though the city of Auburn's downtown parking kiosks are not a hit with everyone.
City officials and councilors have received complaints from residents since the units replaced conventional meters in February.
The city council will discuss parking this afternoon during a work session meeting, and according to Mayor Michael Quill, that conversation will likely focus on the kiosks.
Accessibility is one of the issues residents have brought forth, Quill said.
Elderly and disabled drivers can have a hard time walking from the car to the meter to pay, and then back to the car to place a tag on their dashboard.
Councilors have discussed parking at prior meetings and have talked about the possibility of an annual parking pass for local drivers. The city also recently installed meters downtown at handicapped parking spaces.
While much of the work session will probably involve the kiosks, Quill said he expects other parking issues to come up today.
“It is likely that it will evolve into a general discussion about parking,” Quill said.
While it is a public meeting, there will be no session for the public to be heard.
Also on the agenda is a presentation by local organization Feral Cat Friends, which runs a program to catch, spay or neuter, and release feral cats to help control the population.
