Auburn police are searching for a local man who they say is wanted on multiple felony charges, is possibly armed and could be dangerous.
Elmer P. Wilson III, 32, whose last known address is 45 Blauvelt Dr., Port Byron, is wanted on five charges stemming from two separate warrants.
Wilson is charged with one felony count of second-degree burglary, three felony counts of first-degree criminal contempt, one felony count of unlawful imprisonment and one misdemeanor count each of second-degree aggravated harassment and third-degree menacing.
Auburn detective Lt. Shawn Butler said Wednesday that all alleged incidents involved one victim, and the alleged burglary has taken place within the last week. However, Butler did not release further information about the incidents for the sake of protecting the victim, he said.
The APD has dealt with Wilson before, and he is known to carry knives, Butler said. And according to the official APD release, Wilson may be living in a tent in wooded areas or near Auburn.

Imagine if the police and media knew this guy was on the loose but said nothing, then imagine he hurt someone. All you'd hear then in the paper is screaming about how the police (and media) knew and didn't tell the public.
And people would be right. This is a matter of public safety and people need to know. We can all hope it doesn't come to that, but until he is safely in custody, the fact is, we just don't know. Better safe than sorry.
What other criminals are doing is irrelevant to this discussion. Of course there are others, and we should be concerned about them as well, but that isn't the issue at hand, and it doesn't change a thing about this case. "

pb parent has hit the nail on the head, IF MORE ATTENTION WAS GIVEN TO THE POSITIVE, BEING NEGATIVE WOULDN'T BE SO ATTRACTIVE. "

Our commuinity has more fish to fry and needs more peoples thoughts and inputs on other things than just the ones on the crimes. Come on wake up and comment on some good things like the Tully Runner go to the Olympics, etc. "

For everyone's safety, I hope they catch him, give him his fair trial and if he is guilty, lock him away where he can't hurt honest, decent citizens. Better yet would be if he just turned himself in without hurting anyone else.
Yes, of course there are other dangerous people out there, some insidiously less obviously dangerous. Nonetheless, it is disturbing for people to think about an armed-and-dangerous man lurking in the woods somewhere near our homes.
The name business is a personal bug-a-boo for me -- not that it's Elmer, but that I have strong feelings that it is a bad thing to do to a kid to give him someone else's name -- too many pre-set comparisons. I know it is a very personal choice, and other people feel strongly about carrying on family names, but I personally feel every child should be allowed to be himself and have his very own name; I personally believe it is psychologically healthier and better for individuals to not be born with the need to live up to (or live down!) someone else's name.
But like I said, that's just my own pecadillo. "

I'm sure he will be caught and he will pay the penalty for his choices, if he's taken alive. When he's behind bars, do yourself a favor & check out the Cayuga County Sheriff's website & look at the sex offenders list, then let me know how safe you feel, with these people walking the streets every day, no matter where you live. This will soon be over & someone new will be the topic of discussion. "

Yes, ElmerIII has chosen the wrong path, yet I feel unless you have walked a mile in his shoes, maybe you should think about the passage in the bible " what you cast upon the waters will return to you ten fold" Rots to be You in that case !!!! "

I don't think this guy is "on the streets" -- the article seems to indicate he's living in the woods, so take care if you're going for what you think will be a nice peaceful hike. "
