Barbara Abbott King will no longer run under the Independence and Working Families parties in her bid for the state Assembly, though she will likely still be on the ballot for the Democratic Party.

King is challenging incumbent Gary Finch, R-Springport, for the Assembly seat in the 123rd District, which encompasses portions of Broome, Tioga, Cayuga, Chenango and Cortland counties.

King submitted petitions to the state Board of Elections for all three parties by the July 10 deadline, but a state court invalidated those for the Independence and Working Families parties because neither had enough signatures, spokesman Bob Brehm said. King could not be reached for comment Thursday.

The Board of Elections will certify ballots for all parties on Monday, Brehm said.

Had the board of elections validated King's Independence Party petition, she would have forced a primary for that line with Finch, who also submitted petitions for the Republican and Conservative party line.
