Investigators were at the scene of a Moravia manufacturing facility fire Friday morning that resulted in two firefighters being sent to the hospital.
The blaze broke out before 3 a.m. at the Upsco Inc. plant on Central Street. The fire broke out in a storage container that held 18 drums filled with acetone. One of the drums ruptured.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries that sent them to Auburn Memorial Hospital, said Jim Perkins, deputy fire coordinator for Cayuga County, who was at the scene.
Officials with the state Department of Environmental Conservation and the Cayuga County Health Department were also at the scene, but officials said there was not thought to be any health or environmental threat to the public as a result of the fire.
Twelve fire departments and four ambulance crews were called to the scene.
Upsco makes and refurbishes meters for the utility industry. The fire was limited to the storage container area, so most of the company's plant was unaffected.
