I would like to speak on behalf of what I believe, from conversations with many people over the past several weeks, of what is probably one of the most serious positions the people of the United States have faced in my 67 years as a citizen, born and raised here in our country.
The presidential election, only four short months away, has far, far too many people saying they either “do not like either candidate,” or “I am not even going to vote, because I don't think either one of them can do the job,” or “how can you know which one even has a plan for what they will do, if elected, when they just throw insults back and forth at one another?”
Way too much time has passed since we knew that they were going to be their party's choice; yet neither of them can lay down any kind of real solutions to all of the huge problems we face in the very near future! People feel that our country is in big trouble!
The one that feels like he is going to win the election without any problem, and has said that from nearly the time that he entered the race, has changed his mind so much that I don't think that even he can remember where he stands on a great many important issues of today, let alone those who come.
Leaders are mature people that do not speak until they are sure that what they say nearly always is something they do not have to go back and change, because they found it to be unpopular, and that “just criticism” made it necessary to change the statement. He has done this all too often to make people comfortable. A true leader does not speak of things he has to change his mind about!
The other choice is mostly being criticized for his party nomination, or what everyone expects that will be, and how he will act as president. Being a Republican in 2008 is a very difficult place to be. President Bush, being the strong-willed man that he is, has become very unpopular over his second term and it makes Republicans feel unpopular.
Our country is at a crossroads and for anyone to stay home and not vote in this presidential election, would be the worst mistake they could make, because the future of the United States is at stake this November. Think about it every day, and make the right choice!
