Still smiling

It's been over five years since their 18-year-old son Sean Gummerson was killed in a car accident, but Craig and Linda Gummerson still find a way to honor his memory. Along with Port Byron teacher Angie Hargreaves, the Gummersons have made it an annual tradition to host the Sean W. Gummerson Memorial Golf Tournament. The event was held Sunday at Dutch Hollow Country Club

“I saw how Craig and Linda responded to this,” Hargreaves said of Sean's passing. “Being a parent now, I don't know how they were so thoughtful of those around them. They cared so much about how others were feeling and little about themselves. I wondered how they got through it and handled it the way they did. So we all decided to try the golf tournament out. I guess you could say it's worked pretty well.”

Over the past five years, one thing has been a fact - the support has only increased. The tournament always has around 20 volunteers, normally the same people each year, and this time around, there were 120 golfers participating. The tournament also includes prizes, earnings, a golf towel, a T-shirt and a steak dinner after the round.
