A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for most of the region, including all of Cayuga County, until 8 p.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service reports.

The agency said thunderstorms are expected to develop from late in the afternoon into the evening hours, with a few becoming severe. Some storms will bring strong winds and hail.

The NWS also has a special marine warning in effect for the Lake Ontario shoreline in northern Cayuga County, which means boating in that area may become dangerous.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecasted for the area into Tuesday, but widespread severe weather is not expected.
