RICHLAND -- A 44-year-old Oswego County man is in jail charged with killing his friend during a fight at a campsite.
State police arrested Michael J. Fredette of Scriba early Sunday and charged him with first-degree manslaughter, a felony. He is accused of causing the death of Robert King.

Investigator Wayne Corsa says King was found unresponsive at 1:46 a.m. after the fight at his in-law's seasonal camp in Richland.

Corsa says the two men, who had been friends since childhood, were arguing over one of their wives. He declined to elaborate.

Fredette was arraigned in Richland Town Court and jailed on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to reappear in court Aug. 11.

An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday to determine King's cause of death.
