HIT: To the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse's Youth Theatre Summer Tour. The tour gives children of all ages an opportunity to see live theater in an informal, outdoor setting.

Older citizens remember the ACT Wagon visiting local playgrounds putting on fun shows for youths. The Youth Theatre Summer Tour carries on that tradition and takes it to a higher level, going all over central New York to put on live performances.

In a time when an increasing number of children aren't participating in outdoor activities, it's nice to see something that can bring them outside.

MISS: To the sentencing of a former Boy Scout leader for sexual abusing young boys. The man was given the maximum sentence, but seven years still does not feel like a severe enough punishment for the harm done to the boys.

The abuser used his position of authority to prey upon the innocent, and for that reason, deserves a longer prison term.

MISS: To a credit union scam that could have caused the identity theft of local citizens. Automated phone calls that sounded official asked people to give out personal information that could have caused massive damage to their personal finances.

Give the credit union kudos for immediately getting word out of this scam, possibly saving someone from becoming a victim.

Whether over the phone or on the Internet, every precaution must be taken with personal information, much less it falls into the wrong hands.

MISS: To young bicycle riders that don't observe basic traffic rules.

Recently, we saw one youngster riding his bike in the middle in the road, oblivious to the cars on both sides.

A short time later, another was riding on the left side of the road toward oncoming traffic.

Potential accidents can be avoided if children are taught that a bicycle rider obey the signs and ride on the right side of the road.
